So, what do we expect? The rumour mill has certainly been churning, and it seems likely we’ll see Konami pull back the curtain on a number of Silent Hill projects set to bring back the survival horror franchise in a big way. There’s been word of a Silent Hill remake alongside all-new titles, and even a new Silent Hill movie. How many games are we getting? Has Sony snaffled them all under some kind of timed exclusivity?...

Capitalising on that success, Nintendo has launched a series of advertising campaigns in an unmistakably Nintendo style that targets a more casual market. One such ad is particularly, let’s say, eye-catching. Titled “Snack Attack”, the 48-second clip appears to parody Masterchef with a B-tier Gordon Ramsay furious when his ingredients go missing thanks to a sneaky Munchlax (a baby Snorlax). The advert is created for the UK market (although “eggplant” did throw me off) and may well appeal to a nation that can’t get enough off The Great British Bake Off, although it’s a bit too horror than family fun for my taste....

I creep in, stealth-style, and take cover behind the outrageously convenient waist-high panelled fence. A quick burst of Penumbra Vision - just another name for that oh-so-common video game mechanic that lets you see through walls and solid objects - shows me there’s five - no, wait, eight! - enemies between the exit and I. For a couple of minutes, I sweep around the perimeter, executing a couple of stealthy takedowns, until someone, somehow, spots me from the other side of the room, tickling not only his spider-sense but that of every other soldier in here with me, too....

Specifically, you’ll be able to buy Fortnite characters who wear kits featuring 23 real-life clubs, including high profile names such as Man City, Juventus and Inter Milan. Brazilian footballing legend Pelé is also getting involved, with the “Pelé’s Air Punch Emote” also soon to be available to buy. Finally, there will be a limited-time football mode in the game. I have no idea how this will work but I’m keen to find out....

Production begins this year. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Silicon Valley) are showrunners. There’s no release window yet. Nolan is signed on as executive producer alongside Lisa Joy (who co-created the Westworld series with Nolan), Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios’ and James Altman, director of publishing operations at Bethesda Softworks. Nolan directed the pilot of HBO’s Westworld, its season one finale and the season three premiere. He’s still producing that show alongside Joy - season four starts this year....

The company posted a short update on its Steam blog saying, “have we mentioned Steam Deck is a PC? Like any other PC, you can install other applications and OSes if you’d like”. To have the best Windows experience, users will simply need to download some new drivers (links to these can be found on Steam’s Windows resources page). The first pack, due on 8th December, also includes the Pass Tense MA40 AR coating - a weapon skin. But it’s the XP boosts and challenge swaps which are raising eyebrows among fans who have already criticised the slow progression found in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer portion. Developer 343 has already tweaked the game’s battle pass so players can level up easier - but also said it had more work to do....

The change comes in the wake of Activision Blizzard’s committment to changing its “frat boy” culture following California’s ongoing lawsuit. Following accusations of sexual harassment against the developer the character is named after, Overwatch’s fan-favourite cowboy character Jesse McCree has been given a new name and will be known as Cole Cassidy when an update rolls out on Tuesday, 26th October. Consequently, Activision Blizzard is extending the opportunity of a name-change to its players, too....

Although Sinclair found success creating a range of small calculators in the early 70s, it was the advent of his first, highly affordable mass-market computer in 1980, the ZX80 - which retailed for less than £100 - that helped make him a household name. In 1982, the ZX80 and its successor the ZX81 were followed by one of Sinclair’s most influential products, the ZX Spectrum - a colour-capable home computer that, thanks to its popularity, played a key role in kickstarting the British software industry, leading to the creation of some of the era’s most iconic games, from Manic Miner, Chuckie Egg, and Jet Pac to Lords of Midnight, Knight Lore, and Horace Goes Skiing....

MicroProse Soccer was developed by Sensible Software and is the forerunner to the UK studio’s hugely influential 16-bit classic Sensible Soccer. The original version launched on the Commodore 64, but it was ported to a myriad of systems, including the Amiga, Amstrad, Atari ST, MS-DOS, and ZX Spectrum. MicroProse Soccer was notable for simulating a full 11-a-side game of football with a top-down view, and included a simple control scheme that revolved around tapping or holding down the fire button for passes and shots....

There’s something magical about stories that take place in the span of a day or two. It’s most often done in films, and they’re usually road trips or coming-of-age stories. One of my favourites is 2002’s Orange County, absent of all cynicism, where Colin Hanks’ character has to decide what type of writer he wants to become while choosing which uni to go to. The Artful Escape follows another young man, folk singer Francis Vendetti, in a sleepy Colorado town, where he’s set to cover the songs of his legendary, Dylan-like uncle at a special event....

That’s according to reliably leaky journalist Tom Henderson who, writing for Exputer, claims Gravity Goal will be “just like Rocket League” in as far as it’ll offer up 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 matches where the aim is for players to knock a ball into a goal using their vehicles. Henderson reports a number of twists on the Rocket League formula, however; alongside the switch from cars to TRON-like bikes - an aesthetic that’ll reportedly be reflected in Gravity Goal’s arenas, sporting a “futuristic and high-energy-based vibe” - players will be able to damage their opponents’ bikes by hitting them with a hockey-puck-like disc....

However, the campaign download size is smaller if you already have the multiplayer portion of Infinite installed. “While you can’t officially pre-load the #HaloInfinite campaign (sorry!) you can get a head start by installing the MP package if you don’t have it yet and save a little time tomorrow,” Brian Jarrard, Halo community director at 343 Industries, tweeted. Halo Infinite’s official release date is today, 8th December, but the campaign does not go live until 6pm UK time tonight....

Halo custodian 343 had previously said its focus on The Master Chief Collection meant it had no plans to return to Halo Wars 2, the Creative Assembly-developed real-time strategy game released in 2017. But now all the MCC titles are on PC, some had wondered whether 343 would return to updating Halo Wars 2 with new content. The news, sadly, is that Halo Wars 2 is done. Not only that, there are no current plans to release a Halo Wars 3 - or any new game in the series....

The thing that really stuck out to me, a fan of the first game, was stabbing. Amicia, the returning older sister of brother Hugo, and our hero, can now approach enemies from the back and stealth-kill them, reaching over and stabbing them multiple times in the neck - the kind of gruesome move we’ve seen many times in other stealth combat games. Except A Plague Tale, the first game, wasn’t really a stealth combat game - it was more about running away and hiding and being smart....

The game’s developer Asobo has now warned those with early copies not to ruin Requiem’s story - posting a picture of a knight being consumed by thousands of plague rats as a warning of what will happen should you spoil things for others. Digital copies of the game will unlock at midnight local time next Tuesday, 18th October, but it appears some early physical copies have been sent out early....

Group-IB has published a new report on the topic, illustrating how a new campaign is targeting professional gamers (spotted by PCGamer). The campaign imitates browser pages within Steam with fake direct messages inviting players to join tournaments. Eurogamer Newscast: Ubisoft moves forwards, bets big on Assassin’s Creed. They’re then urged to log in to Steam using their credentials and 2FA code, giving hackers access to their accounts, their virtual goods, and credit card information, as well as a friends list for more targets....

Aiko’s Choice returns players to gorgeous Edo period Japan, giving them control of kunoichi adept Aiko - one of the protagonists featured in the main game - alongside her playable assassin pals, each with their own unique skill sets. Stealth is once more the order of the day and players will have a range of tools at their disposal as they assist Aiko in her quest (which can be tackled across three difficulty settings) to hunt down a vicious enemy from her past....
