The Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, which is running as part of this year’s D23 Expo, will be streamed on Friday, 9th September, at 9pm in the UK/1pm PT. It’s promising “all-new announcements” alongside additional details on previously revealed games. There’ll be more from Disney Dreamlight Valley, for instance, alongside additional news on Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and the recently delayed Marvel’s Midnight Suns. The real draw, though, unless you really love your village life sims, is a glimpse of Skydance New Media and Hennig’s “Marvel ensemble” game....

Bloody Ties - the first of two bits of story DLC currently confirmed as part of Dying Light 2’s five year journey of post-launch support - takes players to The Carnage Hall, an old opera house said to be the “epicentre of death, wealth and absolute splendour”. Here, they’ll find “challenges and quests, surprising new weapon types, character interactions, and discoveries to uncover.” This initial bit of story DLC was originally expected to launch in June but was delayed to September for additional development....

EA Play first popped up on Game Pass back in November, but there was a caveat: the games were only available on console, so those hoping to access EA games on PC (either through Game Pass for PC or Ultimate) would have to wait. The PC versions were scheduled to arrive in December, but the launch was delayed until sometime in 2021. As detailed in the official update video, those hoping to access EA PC games through Game Pass will first need to sign into the Windows 10 Xbox app, then click install on an EA Play game....

That is despite comments - again, from Wilson - as recently as last November where he described NFTs as “an important part of… the future of our industry”. Wilson discussed NFTs last night in an earnings call last night, in response to a question from an investor. Asked whether he felt EA was more likely to partner with an existing blockchain or NFT gaming firm or launch an initiative itself, the EA boss gave a lengthy reply....

Rockstar finally confirmed development on GTA 6 was “well underway” earlier this year, and while official details remain extremely limited, a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier on Tuesday shared a number of tantalising details about the project, claiming it’ll be set in Miami and will feature the series’ first female protagonist as part of a Bonny and Clyde-style duo. Notably, though, Schreier claimed Rockstar’s initial plans were much more ambitious, featuring a map that would include “large swaths of North and South America”....

Like a mash-up of Harry Potter and Stardew Valley, the game is set in a magical school and features a mix of RPG style quests and life-sim aspects like school lessons, gardening and more. Oh, and magic is performed through music. Neat! Players will create their own character who won’t be defined by gender, plus customisation options won’t be locked by gender either. As the game will be translated into multiple languages without gender neutral options, the developers are exploring options to ensure the game is as open as possible for players across the world....

Return of Reckoning is a Warhammer Online private server that has been going for some time now, but over the weekend achieved a quite impressive milestone: the release of two capital cities that were planned for the fantasy MMO but never made it into the official game. The Dwarf home city of Karaz-A-Karak and the Greenskin home city of Karak Eight Peaks were two of four capital cities that appeared in the Warhammer Online beta but were removed prior to launch....

Research firm NPD Group - which originally asserted Elden Ring was one of the top 10 best-selling games in history before retracting the claim due to “incomplete data” - reports in an updated statement that From Software’s action RPG has “placed first in dollar sales in four of its first five months in market”, is the best-selling game of June 2022, and remains “the best-selling game of 2022 year to date”....

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last six months, this all stems from Microsoft’s intent to buy Activision for 68.7bn, which Sony isn’t too happy about. Recently we’ve heard arguments from Sony offering some of its views on the deal - that it would be bad news for PlayStation, essentially - and now Microsoft itself has hit back. Microsoft has reiterated that it does not want to make Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive - for now, at least - and even said it would be an unprofitable move if it did so....

Outside of the Animus, this past weekend was also a major moment for Ubisoft itself, as it emerged from a period of relative silence following a bruising few years of scandal, takeover rumours, and further discontent surrounding its NFT plans. If you missed it, I spoke with Ubisoft boss Yves Guillmot about all of that. Ubisoft Forward seemed aptly named, with a look over the horizon to a brighter future for the company....

With so many announcements, it’s easy to get lost in what’s already out and what’s available when. Here’s a quick reminder of everything new that was announced for Game Pass this week. Previously a PS5 and PC exclusive, Deathloop will be joining Game Pass on 20th September. The game will also be receiving a major update with new enemies and an extended ending. Plenty of indie games are joining the library, as reported by Matt Wales during the ID@Xbox showcase....

A detectivey romancey story set just after London’s fall, the game features a familiar setting but a new genre for the studio - something which encouraged it back to Kickstarter again to test the waters. As of writing, the project has more than £97k pledged of its initial £90k target, with 28 days of funding still to go. Mask of the Rose will launch for PC, Mac and Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S - though it’s worth noting Kickstarter pledges do not offer a way to reserve a console copy....

Situated on the corner of the map, you’ll visit this location during the Diesel Daisy mission from the Monteros storyline. That said, it’s worth visiting sooner to pick up one of the best unique weapons in Far Cry 6, the Supercharger. On this page: Appearing as an island just outside of Aguas Lindas in Madrugada, as mentioned you will visit this location as part of the Monteros storyline - but you can visit it at any time from leaving the starting island to pick up the Supercharger whenever you area ready....

Once you have discovered the Oluwa Cave location, you will then start the Triada Blessings quest, which takes you across the map to find three Relics - Oku, Ida and Mimo Absoi - which will grant you a series of powerful gear. By completing the Triada Blessings quest, you then receive additional rewards - including a powerful new Supremo, rifle and Amigo. If you were only to complete only a few Far Cry 6 collectibles during your time with the game, make sure these are among them....

The latest patch (6.1) added the Crystalline Conflict 5v5 PvP mode, however Square Enix is receiving “an unprecedented number of reports concerning uncooperative/lethargic or taunting behaviour during matches”. Yoshida has penned a blog post response, noting that such behaviour is prohibited - including the amusing firework emote. “All PvP content, including Crystalline Conflict, is intended to be a battle/contest of skill between players,” he said. “Participants must bring their best to the fight, and for this reason uncooperative or lethargic behaviour is prohibited....

Producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, confirmed that, while “extensive and persistent”, the errors will be resolved when the game goes into maintenance mode tomorrow, 16th May. It’s taken a full month to fix the issue, though. Back in April, Yoshida apologised to players for ongoing issues with the MMORPG’s new housing lottery system that prevented players from winning any land. Writing on the official website, he explain what the team was doing to address a problem in which players were being told their bids were unsuccessful because there “were no participants in this lottery”, or that the winning number was “0”… even though no players can be assigned that number....
