In a statement announcing their departure on the Rocksteady website, Warner Bros. Games’ David Haddad praised the duo’s work, complimenting their commitment to “the highest quality and excellence across all facets of game development”. He continued: “With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League nearly finished, they have both decided to leave Rocksteady at the end of 2022 and will begin a new adventure in gaming. We have the utmost respect and gratitude for Jamie and Sefton and wish them all the best in their new endeavour, and like many fans, we look forward to what they do next....

Duke Nukem Forever, which finally released in 2011, previously held the Guinness World Record for the longest development period for a video game project, at just over 14 years. But Beyond Good & Evil 2 has now beaten that, as noted on Twitter by GamesIndustry.biz’s Brendan Sinclair. “Duke Nukem Forever went 5156 days from its announcement in 1997 to its release in 2011,” Sinclair wrote on Twitter over the weekend....

It feels a bit wild to be making this statement nearly two years after the game came out. According to SteamDB, yesterday the number concurrent players in Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam peaked at 37,000, beating out Elden Ring on 31,000 and mostly topped by titles with a huge multiplayer base such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Destiny 2. By comparison, a month ago on 18th August, Cyberpunk 2077’s highest player count was 16,000....

The Dark Souls server woes began in January, when Bandai Namco was forced to disable servers for all Dark Souls games following reports of serious security concerns. Although the publisher described the situation as ’temporary’ at the time, it took over seven months for a fix to be deployed, with Dark Souls 3’s servers finally coming back online at the end of August. Unfortunately, the celebrations have been short-lived, and the game’s PvP servers are, as of yesterday, once again unavailable, preventing players from accessing any of its online features....

NetEase, which publishes Blizzard’s mobile game Diablo Immortal, said it had acquired the studio behind Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls without disclosing a fee. NetEase originally acquired a minority stake in Quantic Dream in 2019. Quantic Dream, led by David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière, is now NetEase’s first studio in Europe. It will “continue to operate independently, focusing on creating and publishing its video games on all platforms, as well as supporting and publishing third-party developed titles, while at the same time leveraging NetEase’s significant game development capabilities”, the company insisted....

2016’s accomplished reboot was already quite the debauch, its firefights punctuated by leering close-ups of skewered hellspawn, its heavy metal soundtrack always building to a crescendo. Eternal turns up the heat even further, allowing you to dash and flip your way around arenas that are newly fixated on the vertical axis. Dripping organs are wrenched out of, then stuffed back into, demon torsos; chargeable alt-fires scream for release; health orbs spatter the ramps and chokepoints like - well, you get the picture....

I play Dorfromantik an awful lot. It’s a hex-based tile game about making landscapes. You get a stack of tiles with little rivers, train tracks, forests, villages, grass or farmland on, and you plonk them down. Quests appear to connect certain amounts of a certain type of landscape, and these quests, once fulfilled, give you more tiles. Eventually, though, you run out. Game over. Defeat? Not really, because you’ve been making a landscape all this time, worrying about the details, and once you’re out, the landscape is finished....

On New Year’s Eve developer Techland reminded fans to “keep your heads up for 2021” and in early January, said “exciting news” was on the way, but otherwise, details have been pretty sparse. While the “exciting news” has yet to be confirmed, an eagle-eyed Resetera poster has shared details of an unannounced Collector’s Edition, which reportedly popped up on Czech retailer Xzone.cz before being unceremoniously yanked again. It was still available via cache for a few hours thereafter, too, but seems to have been scrubbed out now… albeit not before the internet spotted and screencapped, though....
