UK retailer Game has a fresh batch of PS5 stock now available online with both editions of the console alongside the usual bundles available to purchase. Priority orders are expected to arrive by the 16th December, while standard delivery should see your order delivered by the 20th December - just in time for Christmas. PS5 consoles and bundles - starting from £359 at Game. And if you’re hoping to get your hands on a PS5 console before Christmas, this may be one of the last opportunities you get....

That includes gamelists, essentially folders, to make organising your game collection more manageable. Players can have up to 15 lists, with 100 games per list. 1440p HDMI video output is also available for those with compatible TVs or monitors. The Cycle: Frontier is a PvPvE shooter set on Fortuna III - an alien planet which was was ravaged by the Cycle, a radioactive storm that quickly wiped out most of its people....

Each season will last approximately three months, and each will begin by introducing a fresh dollop of content (in Thursday’s case, a new voyage-type for the much-maligned Merchant Alliance), ongoing live events, and most notably, a new 100-level progression system. Rare says Sea of Thieves’ new three-month content release schedule will allow it to “craft more meaningful experiences…and return to a more predictable rhythm of release.” However, it also notes the game will continue to receive smaller monthly updates, delivering bug fixes, quality of life improvements, and new stock for the Pirate Emporium....

Both are developed by Insomniac Games, which was snapped up by Sony in 2019, though Sunset Overdrive has never been available on PlayStation platforms. Insomniac teased the crossover on Twitter last night, with a picture that showed Sunset Overdrive drink mascot Fizzie being warped into Rift Apart. Similar tweets also showed other PlayStation franchises such as Uncharted and Horizon getting in on the action. Insomniac soon revealed that items from other PlayStation games (and Sunset Overdrive) will appear in Rift Apart via the new RYNO 8 weapon....

Around a year later, he followed that feat by hacking the PlayStation 3 - and memorably rapped about Sony’s subsequent attempts to sue him. The two sides ultimately settled matters outside of court. Now, Hotz has agreed to join Musk at Twitter on a temporary work contract (something which seems wise). If you’re wondering what Hotz has been up to over the past decade, the hacker-turned-CEO has been busy....

Over the past few days players have taken to social media to report more DDoS attacks on both Titanfall and Titanfall 2, resulting in both regular players and content creators being booted from servers (or unable to connect at all). This time the attacks seem particularly severe, as Titanfall 2 streamers have said they are being “blacklisted” by the hacker so that their games are automatically hit when they join, making their main accounts unusable....

The developer revealed its removal yesterday, stating that this is all is due to a “licensing issue”. Instead, the company has now added a “replacement default sound”. To give some context of how widespread the attention for Roblox’s “oof” is, American rapper Post Malone used this sound in one of his remixes. This was reportedly because “his little one loves Roblox”. I wonder how they will take the news? The famous “oof” originally came from video game music composer Tommy Tallarico, who told GamesBeat in 2019 that he owns the rights to the sound....

Around a decade ago, plans were in place for director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill to adapt Eidos Montreal’s popular cyberpunk shooter into a film. But it wasn’t to be. Derrickson and Cargill were snapped up by Marvel to make Doctor Strange, and without the duo onboard, production company CBS Films lost interest and moved on. “I’m really, really sad CBS Films fumbled the ball on this project,” movie exec Scott Kinney, who worked on the project with Derrickson, has now told USA Today....

Slitterhead is the work of Toyama’s new studio, Bokeh, which he founded after departing SCE Japan Studio at the tail-end of last year. Bokeh, which is also home to several other SCE Japan Studio alumni - including Gravity Rush lead designer Junya Okura and Kazunobu Sato - confirmed its first project would see Toyama return to his horror roots back in February. However, little was revealed about the new game at the time, only that Toyama wanted players to “feel exhilarated when playing” and that it would draw inspiration from the popular ‘death game’ sub-genre....

The second episode of the Maid of Sker spin-off - entitled The Ashes of Sker Hotel - sees players “return to the ruins of Sker Hotel with a new threat emerging from the shadows” where you’ll be expected to defeat “new creations” and “survive the hellish domain of a sadistic tyrant who threatens your cause”. Details dug up from an Xbox store listing point to Skull and Bones having the usual array of pre-order bonuses, as well as premium items for an edition including a soundtrack and artbook. A release date - 8th November 2022 - was also spied, thanks to regular store watcher Aggiornamenti Lumia, and subsequently verified by serial leaker Tom Henderson. After a long and protracted development, Ubisoft previously confirmed Skull and Bones would finally launch at some point this year....

That’s according to Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka, in an interview with Sector (via The Gamer). Discussing the structure of the latest game in the series, it seems the open zone design will be the new standard. A couple of weeks ago it emerged that the case had been filed with the Competition Appeal Tribunal, alleging that Sony abuses its position in the market to unfairly charge customers. Leading the lawsuit is Alex Neill, who took to reddit to field questions about the case. It went about as well as you would expect - not at all. Responses from Neill were vague and often didn’t answer the question being asked....

Reuters reported on a Nikkei story that claims Sony and Taiwan’s TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, are discussing a partnership to build a chip factory in Japan, with the government apparently up for paying some of the investment of about 800bn yen (£5.24bn). The plant would pump out semiconductors for automobiles, camera image sensors and other products hit by the global chip shortage, and would be up and running by 2024, Nikkei said....

The annual event highlights speedruns, gameplay showcases, and competitions, with this year’s event raising money for Prevent Cancer Foundation. For the second year running, the event will be online only. It runs from 9 - 16th January on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel, with speedruns ranging from recent hits like Psychonauts 2 and Kena Bridge of Spirits, to the classics Diddy Kong Racing and Half Life 2. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed 16 minutes of footage of the PS5 version during Square Enix’s latest Letter from the Producer livestream (thanks, Gematsu).
