In a blog post, Treyarch signalled League Play goes live at some point on 8th February 2021. The developer said Black Ops Cold War’s League Play is “built on the foundations” of Black Ops 4’s ladder system. However, it will offer more ranks for competitive fans to climb during League Play events. Black Ops 4 had a World League Hub from which you could compete in a Pro Series playlist using the same game modes, rules, maps and restrictions the pros play with....

Other changes detailed in Infinity Ward’s patch notes include the return of CDL modes and a fix to now show the correct number of Battle Pass Tokens on the Battle Pass menu. A timer on the game’s battle pass reveals Season 1 is now due to end on 1st February 2023. UI improvements in this patch target the game’s Camos menu, where you can now toggle the option to show (or hide) locked Camos, tidying everything up....

The update introduced a new version of fan-favourite map Shipment, the game’s first ever raid level called Atomgrad, and a limited-time Warzone Cup mode which is effectively a copy of Rocket League but with ATVs. But it also brought with a whole host of bugs and glitches. First, after installing the patch, players found their custom weapon builds completely wiped. Some lost one or two of their builds, while others unfortunately lost all of them....

Back in October, Crystal Dynamics launched a detailed questionnaire asking if the community would be interested in seeing the dark fantasy action-adventure series - which spanned five titles between 1996 and 2003 - make a comeback. And the response, it turns out, was substantial. “In the past, we’ve found that surveys typically get between 1,000 and 3,000 responses,” Crystal Dynamics and Eidos CEO Phil Rogers explained during parent company Embracer Group’s latest earnings call (thanks CVG), “but when we asked folk about Legacy of Kain, we received over 100,000 responses....

While Cubchoo and its evolved form, Beartic, don’t have much use in Pokémon Go, being pretty awful across Go Battle League and raids alike, it’s a great opportunity to look for the elusive 100% IV Cubchoo, which is generally a seasonal spawn. What the patch notes don’t spell out in great detail is any particular push to optimise the experience for the PS4 and Xbox One generation of consoles, though there is a long list of engine-specific optimisations that should in theory improve the experience for all users. There are also promised improvements for the controversial temporal anti-aliasing solution, plus improved screen-space reflections. Xbox One is singled out for memory management optimisations too - but it’s the streaming optimisations that caught our eye as it’s this that seems to be the key for dramatic improvements on the title on PlayStation 4 Pro....

It makes a long list of fixes, including for an issue where, after the player commits a crime on the roof of a building, NCPD officers would spawn behind the player’s back. Remember, update 1.2 tackled police reaction times with an increase to their spawn radius for when a player commits a crime, among other things. The focus here is on further improving the stability of CD Projekt’s embattled sci-fi adventure, and fixing common issues that could block progression....

Arizona man Nathan Harris is trying to launch the suit, which claims Hearthstone tricks players into non-refundable purchases without knowing the odds of rare cards (thanks, Polygon). In particular, Harris complains that his daughter - who used his credit card without asking - did not realise you could not get a refund from packs which “almost never received any valuable cards”. The game also lacks parental controls, Harris complained. Harris is seeking to use the California Family Code - which gives minors rights to get out of contracts and gain refunds - as part of a class-action suit, so the complaint could potentially be opened up to other, similar parents without full control of their credit cards....

So, it turns out that those ’travellers’ that litter Hyrule, but are in fact members of the Yiga Clan in disguise, are actually “evil twins” of other inhabitants found across the map. As documented by justlookingfordragon on Reddit, the ‘disguises’ used by the Yiga are “1:1 clones of other, properly named NPCs that exist somewhere” in the game’s world. To prove their discovery, justlookingfordragon “took 14 pictures of the Yiga at the Hebra Trailhead Lodge in different disguises” and then went on to track down “the ‘real’ NPCs he was pretending to be....

According to ResetEra’s Red Liquorice, earlier today they received a consumer survey directly from the developer which offered plot details, eight screenshots, and even two videos about the unannounced sequel....

When I was younger, my parents used to invite my brother and me to bet on the Grand National - a renowned British horse race - with 20p being the maximum amount we could put into the pot. Despite the minuscule amount of money at stake, and the fact that I now find races like the Grand National to be rather cruel, it was impossible not to feel a certain rush whenever I handed over my 20 pence piece in hopes that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, or whichever oddly named nag I’d chosen, would help me win big....

The headline here is that it features a Fast IPS panel, the same as Dell’s S2721DGFA and LG’s own 27GL850, which brings with it the excellent colour reproduction and wonderfully wide viewing angles of an IPS display with the speedy 1ms response times and great motion handling that would normally be more associated with a TN panel. You also get the current spec sweet spot for PC gaming - 2560x1440 and 144Hz - which is also supported on PS5 and Xbox Series X....

Fan excitment was sparked this week by word that Redfall and Starfield gameplay would be shown at a Community Get Together to be held next Friday, 26th August. “Come see Redfall and Starfield gameplay and get your hands on Fallout 76 while you’re there,” the blog teased. “Of course, we also have a few surprises and goodies in store for you.” The post raised eyebrows over on the Starfield reddit, but fans have noticed the blog has subsequently been changed to remove reference to Redfall and Starfield entirely....

There’s a more serious background to this, though. As Wired reports, a hacker known as Sick Codes presented a new jailbreak for John Deere & Co. tractors at the DefCon security conference in Las Vegas. Digital locks are imposed on vehicles by manufacturers, preventing farmers from modifying and repairing their own equipment. The right-to-repair has proven controversial in the farming industry, but Sick Codes has found a workaround.
