Solo developer Lorenzo Drago has shared a video of a three minute tech demo using the new engine, based on the Etchū-Daimon Station train station in Toyama, Japan. It is incredible. Drago worked on all modelling, texturing, lighting and animation for the video and used Unreal’s Lumen technology for the lighting. The Nanite geometry system wasn’t used. The results look almost indistinguishable from real life. Drago used VR control to simulate handheld camera movement, which definitely gives the video a creepy found footage vibe with its deserted environment....

Bandai Namco, Capcom and Konami, to name but a few, will also be exhibiting at the event, which takes place between 15th and 18th September. The site for the show itself is shrouded in mystery for now, with the organisers simply teasing the stage for this event is a “dungeon” and the following text: “Makuhari Messe is the venue for TGS VR in 2022. This should come as little surprise. Earlier this year, Ubisoft delayed both Rainbow Six Extraction and Riders Republic, pushing Extraction to an unspecified day in January 2022. Although the developer/publisher has yet to formally confirmed the release date, it seems an update to a news post published back in June now gives a firm release for the shooter (thanks, VGC). A cursory look at Extraction’s official website and social media channels show there’s still no confirmed date displayed, suggesting the updated blog post has either been changed incorrectly, prematurely, or secretively… or possibly all three....

For those closely following news around the announcement of the remake and its subsequent delays, there’s not a lot new here. The game is still very much alive, Ubisoft promises, albeit no longer at its original development studio. Still, the page is a handy place for fans to go for a bit of reassurance. Ubisoft has a habit of delaying games for years - looking at you Skull and Bones, and you Beyond Good & Evil 2, and you Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - without providing much proof they still exist....

Revisiting Uncharted 4 and its Lost Legacy spin-off - both remastered now for PlayStation 5 - reminds us of the sheer level of achievement delivered by Naughty Dog in the last generation. Both are impressively executed games that essentially perfect the cinematic action formula, delivering strong characterisation, stunning locations and exceptional set-pieces. Across the PS4 generation, the studio proved time and again that it had mastered the balancing act of delivering engrossing player agency within a tightly-defined cinematic experience....

The ban was seen by many fans as reactive - as some user-made projects have already used Minecraft to shift NFTs in the past. Now, one of the largest of those - NFT Worlds - has issued a response via Twitter, and said it would create “a new game and platform” instead (thanks, PC Gamer). NFT Worlds describes itself as a “fully decentralised, fully customizable, community driven, play to earn gaming platform where world owners can create their own limitless metaverse games or experiences for players or exclusive communities within their worlds”....

Documentary YouTube channel Noclip shared the footage in its latest video, focused on the development of Doom 2016. It begins, however, with a first look at Doom 4 which was later scrapped. Styanax - who gets a proper introduction in the animated Ascension Day trailer below - is described as a “mighty and herculean” Warframe whose designed is inspired by the ancient Greek warrior Astyanax. His abilities include the Axios Javelin - which can push back enemies on impact, causing damage if they hit a wall - and the Tharros Strike shield, capable of repelling enemies and reducing their shields and armour as it’s swung around, regenerating Styanax’s health with each successfully landed blow....

Crash’N’Dance is being developed by indie dev Fierce the Bandit, who posted a short video of their current progress. The fan-made project is a rhythm game where players must hit button prompts in time to the music. Fake Crash will pop up on the screen sporadically in an attempt to distract you, but if you’re successful, Crash will perform his signature boogie and get a shiny crystal. Crash’N’Dance is actually a fan remake of a secret mini-game called Crash Party USA, which was only available in the Game Boy Advance version of Crash Nitro Kart and Spyro crossover GBA games Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy....
