But have Microsoft and Sony also struggled to get their new consoles into shape in time for launch? PS5 users have reported a raft of worrying issues with the console, including crashes, Rest Mode concerns, and the frustrating “queued for download” bug that forces people who encounter it to factory reset. The annual music festival is held each summer in London’s Royal Albert Hall, but this is the first time the classical music festival has featured a concert dedicated to game music. The event - titled Gaming Prom – From 8-Bit to Infinity - took place earlier this week, hosted by BBC gaming reporter Steffan Powell and Louise Blain, who hosts the excellent Sound of Gaming podcast on BBC Sounds. “For the first time, the BBC Proms dedicates an entire concert to gaming music,” the BBC explains....

Sony announced it would buy Bungie for $3.6bn back in February. At the time, Sony boss Jim Ryan stated the purchase was “an important step in [Sony’s] strategy to expand the reach of PlayStation to a much wider audience”. Despite a probe by the FTC that sought to review “the latest example of how aggressive the agency is becoming in reviewing mergers”, the agreement has now formally “closed” and Sony has posted across its social media channels to “officially” welcome Bungie to “the PlayStation family”....

Surprise-announced last night at the Nintendo Indie Showcase, the Switch version features touch and motion controls that could considerably change the way the game plays. The Zelda-like adventure features a magical paintbrush that’s used to interact with the world and solve puzzles. Now, that paintbrush can be controlled either through the touch screen or motion control using the Joy-Con, which is more direct than using the analogue sticks in the PlayStation version....

Sword of Persia buffs +5 Combat Strength attacking full Health Units, whilst cities not founded by Nader Shah receive +2 Faith and +3 Gold on Domestic Trade Routes. The Magnificent, on the other hand, gives +15% Science and Culture when in a Golden Age and +4 Combat Strength when not in a Golden Age against Civilisations who are also not in a Golden Age....
After years of hype and flashy trailers, Cyberpunk 2077 arrived in a broken and buggy state on consoles, particularly on last-gen machines. The game was temporarily withdrawn from sale on PlayStation and, a year on, its next-gen update is still to materialise. In the wake of all that, several class-action lawsuits were filed against CD Projekt by investors who claimed the company had provided “materially misleading information” about the game prior to its launch....
According to the Bloomberg report [paywall], most CD Projekt employees are currently working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the cyber attack and CD Projekt’s refusal to pay the ransom, employees have been unable to log into the company’s virtual private network for weeks - leaving the majority of developers unable to access the tools and systems required for their work. Some employees were also asked to send their computers to CD Projekt’s IT staff to check whether malware had been installed during the attack....
