However, it turns out that before Ramsey landed the part of Ellie, fellow Game of Thrones alum Maisie Williams (who played Arya Stark) was in talks for the role back when the game was being pegged for a film adaptation. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann said the team needed to ensure that whoever was cast as Ellie in any adaptation would be able to appear “tough and vulnerable and wise beyond [their] years and also have a potential for violence” all at once....

The original Layers of Fear launched in 2016, taking players on a surreal first-person horror trip through the ever-shifting home of a tortured painter, and its 2018 sequel, Layers of Fear 2 - inspired by the golden age of Hollywood - followed a brand-new protagonist on an avant-garde journey through the innards of an ocean liner and their troubled past. Perhaps surprisingly then, Bloober’s first teaser for its latest Layers of Fear project, as shared by IGN, doesn’t immediately point toward a new setting and protagonist....

Though the current statement warns that users should “play with care” given the game “may include references to unwanted advances, stalking, and other forms of emotional manipulation”, the mature themes have prompted Kitfox to update the warning and make it “more accurate” in an update next week. “The content warning for Boyfriend Dungeon inadequately describes the events of stalking and emotional manipulation that exist in the story,” the developer said in a statement on Twitter (thanks, PC Gamer)....

Last week Activision banned 60,000 accounts for cheating in Warzone amid an ongoing furore over hacking. Yesterday, developer Raven said it had issued another ban wave across the battle royale behemoth, with “more to come”. “Stepping up anti-cheat efforts on all fronts,” Raven tweeted. It looks like Activision is making a renewed effort to publicise its Warzone anti-cheat effort after a high-profile YouTuber’s announcement he had quit the game over hacking hit mainstream headlines....

The game’s Twitter confirmed the May release last night, some five months after the game first launched for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, including via Xbox Game Pass. A mix of 1930s action and HP Lovecraft weirdness, Call of the Sea follows adventurer Norah Everhart as she travels to a mysterious island in search of her missing husband Harry. “A dazzlingly different debut with a haunting sense of place and adventure,” Bertie wrote of the game, recommending it in Eurogamer’s Call of the Sea review....

The game celebrates its tenth anniversary this May. Reads the website: “Thank you, Arisen, for taking up arms and braving through the impossible challenges laid ahead of you. We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration of Dragon’s Dogma!” But why would Capcom go to such an effort for this game in particular? Dragon’s Dogma released in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360 to generally favourable reviews, including a 7/10 from Eurogamer (back when we did scores)....

Wetlands, if you haven’t been keeping a tally, will be Planet Zoo’s ninth DLC expansion since its launch in 2019, following on from the Arctic Pack, South America Pack, Australia Pack, Aquatic Pack, Southeast Asia Animal Pack, Africa Pack, North America Animal Pack, and Europe Pack. Given that this latest expansion falls into the ‘Animal Pack’ category, it lacks the zoo-sprucing scenery items seen in Planet Zoo’s just plain-old ‘Pack’ packs, instead choosing to focus on a boosted number of creature additions - in this case bringing a grand total of eight new water-themed species: the capybara, platypus, Asian small-clawed otter, spectacled caiman, Nile lechwe, wild water buffalo, red-crowned crane, and Danube crested newt....

Upon release in December, Cyberpunk suffered from a raft of crippling technical issues, particularly on consoles, and failed to live up to the expectations set by its pre-release marketing. The problems were so bad that Sony pulled Cyberpunk from sale on the PlayStation Store - and Microsoft slapped the game with a performance warning. Refunds were eventually offered for a limited period. CD Projekt also faces class action lawsuits in the United States over Cyberpunk’s troubled debut, and potential legal action from investors....

With 19 pieces in the whole collection, players can peruse through t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and even a unique varsity jacket in the classic Mushroom Kingdom colours. White and Red are consistent themes, albeit smoothed down a little so you’re not as glaringly bright as a Toad’s spotted head. There’s also a real retro tone to the whole thing, with more images of old 2D Mario instead of the newer stuff....

This week the British developer announced it had wrapped up work on Total War: Three Kingdoms with the 1.7.1 patch. No more DLC or patches will be released for the game, which broke series records upon launch in May 2019. Total War: Three Kingdoms saw seven DLC releases over the course of two years, but many fans feel Creative Assembly quit the game too early - and before the release of a promised expansion that would build out the north of the map....

According to a report by industry analyst SuperData, PC games revenue jumped 40 per cent in December 2020, “thanks to the release of Cyberpunk 2077”. Interestingly, while the sale estimates do include refunds, the “data shows that refunds did not substantially affect the game’s aggregate sales”. “A successful marketing campaign and the reputation of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provided the hype necessary for the CD Projekt Red title to break records despite issues including performance problems on consoles, widespread glitches and the indefinite removal of the game from the PlayStation Store,” the report said....

Until the arrival of the new patch, Series S only ran at a capped 30fps at a dynamic 1440p resolution, going down to 2304x1296 lowest via dynamic scaling. There was no mode toggle like on PS5 or Series X - no option to choose between quality and performance. Adding to the disappointment, Series S had no option for ray-traced shadows either. Patch 1.6 doesn’t add the RT features, but at least the option to switch between fidelity and frame-rate is there....
