Speaking of game preservation, Nintendo’s plan to stop selling Super Mario 3D All-Stars in shops and even on the eShop at the end of March gets the full ‘what the hell are you playing at, Nintendo?...

Techland is yet to detail the precise enhancements PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can expect when Dying Light 2 launches early next month, but it has now referenced them in more general terms in two new “Modes Presentation” trailers, outlining the three different visual modes selectable on new-gen platforms. The videos, one for PlayStation 5 and the other for Xbox Series X, each feature a slightly different cut of Dying Light 2 gameplay footage but both highlight a Quality Mode that features raytracing, a Resolution Mode promising a resolution boost to 4K, and a Performance Mode, pushing the frame rate to 60fps and beyond....

The playtest was recently announced, allowing players a look at an early build of the game. But already details have been leaking from it, including information on its map, character customisation, and in-game currency. Project Rene - a name EA says it chose to reflect words like “renewal, renaissance, rebirth” - is described as a “next generation Sims game and creative platform” that will “[reimagine] the Sims you know and love with new ways to play”. It’s said to be built on a foundation of “charming sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories” that will stay true to previous Sims games while also “pushing to evolve how those Sims think and behave, [pushing] tools even further when creating and customising, and [exploring] innovative ways to not only tell stories but to collaborate on those stories or creations with your closest friends across your favourite devices....

Japanese newspaper Asahi reported today that Naka now stands accused of violating financial laws in relation to another mobile game it is claimed he had insider knowledge of - Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. Specifically, Naka is accused of purchasing 144.7m yen’s worth of shares in its developer ATeam (worth around £865k) before The First Soldier was officially announced. Last month, Naka was reportedly arrested for a similar charge, that time in relation to a Square Enix-published Dragon Quest mobile game....
