The warning comes in response to a video from YouTuber Bigdaddyjende, which showed some potentially hazardous flashing lights in the game’s final boss battle. (There’s a link here, but please note the footage contains a potential epilepsy trigger, so watch with caution.) It takes the form of a white flashing light, covering the entire screen with a strobe effect. Other videos of the same boss battle, however, did not show the flashing light effect - leading some to speculate that it was some form of bug....

Creeping into pole position in the update notes are two 3D models of actual dead bugs that were found outside of the developer’s office. Mind-bugglingly, the developers working there decided to pick up these dead bugs, perform multiple CT scans of them, and then model them in 3D for viewing....

The beat ’em-up, which has sold an impressive 2.5m copies, is also getting a new mode and new customisation options. Estel Aguirre is one of the three new playable characters. She appeared in the game as an intimidating, boss fight-style foe. The video below shows Estel as a playable DLC character. There’s also a hint at the DLC’s two other characters yet to be revealed. Mr. X Nightmare also introduces a new Survival mode....

“What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger,” the developer teased on Twitter earlier today. But other than that incredibly ominous line, details on The Quarry are currently pretty sparce, with Supermassive Games only saying its “all-new horror experience” will come this summer. More will hopefully be revealed tomorrow. The first anyone had heard of The Quarry was in February. As Vikki reported at the time, Supermassive filed a new trademark for The Quarry with the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office....

The fourth in the horror series from Supermassive Games, The Devil In Me is the finale of the anthology’s first season, continuing its legacy of cinematic action and choice-based gameplay. The story follows a group of filmmakers invited to a replica of the ‘Murder House’ of H.H. Holmes, America’s first serial killer. Things, of course, do not go well. The trailer has shades of Saw, as the filmmaking crew get caught up in the designs of a creepy host....

New content for The Division 2 was officially announced back in March, following Ubisoft’s decision to continue supporting the online shooter despite initial plans to make December 2020’s Update 12 its last. Since then, updates have largely been limited to re-runs of previous seasons while developer Ubisoft Massive works on delivering the next major release. Announcing the studio’s newly revised development timeline on its website, Ubisoft explained it had opted to shift the launch of The Division 2’s next major content update - which will include “significant endgame changes and features” alongside the new game mode - to next February in order to ensure it is delivered “on par with our vision”....

Although there has been a mixed response to the news that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, many have been waiting to buy the exclusive Joy-Con. Sure, I get it, it’s not strictly a deal, but some folk really want these. Last week, I reported on how over one thousand World of Warcraft players had banded together to create a “fresh” experience in the Classic version of the famous MMO. In the absence of incoming fresh servers with the launch of Burning Crusade Classic, those who only now fancy playing the famous MMO as it was in 2004 face starting on realms filled with maximum level players and botting. In response, players came together en masse to “reboot” the vanilla experience on one of the least populated servers....

The first game in the series released today in 1996 on Sega Saturn, launching the iconic series and the long-running career of Ms Lara Croft. Since then there have been 19 games in the series. After the original trilogy and a reimagining in 2007’s Tomb Raider Anniversary, a reboot in 2013 brought a gritty new take on Lara. Back at the Square Enix Presents event in March, the publisher announced its plans to celebrate, including Lara appearing in Fortnite and the release of the Tomb Raider Definitive Survivor Trilogy....

The publisher has said these new PlayStation and Xbox versions will offer “a variety of upgrades, such as super crisp 120FPS at 1080P, native 4K at 60FPS, spatial audio and more”. They’re also not free - you’ll pay a $10 upgrade fee to unlock a “Cross-Gen Deluxe Bundle” unless you own the game’s Digital Deluxe version currently. Oh, and you can’t upgrade any disc copy on Xbox even if you want to pay....

Townscaper is a simple thing, as simple and clear as the face of a wristwatch. But like the face of a wristwatch, it pulls you in, its own little universe for you to peer down at and ponder for who knows how long. This is a game-like toy, an art tool in which you create - and erase, if you wish - little towns, starting with a still stretch of water and ending with busy centres, suburbs, cathedrals, tower blocks, hamlets, burgs, you name it....

Roller Champions, if you’re unfamiliar, is Ubisoft’s stab at creating the kind of raucous, knockabout sports mash-up that’s made Rocket League such a perennial favourite, and it plays something like a fast-paced hybrid of competitive roller-skating, hockey, and football. Each game see two teams of three players hurtling around a track in an attempt to wrestle the ball from one another. When the ball is finally in a team’s possession, they need to complete at least one lap before pelting it into the goal....

While the Naughty Dog titles deploy state of the art rendering, thus far the studio has not embraced dynamic resolution rendering to balance performance - not even in its latest title, The Last of Us Part One. So, in theory at least, the PS5’s GPU is not fully maxed out. To be clear, the new patch 1.002 does not add this feature, but via VRR upgrades it taps into that latent GPU power by offering the ability to unlock frame-rate, while also adding a 40fps fidelity mode....

An early sample of the device, apparently left behind by accident, was recently discovered by hotel worker Ramiro Cardenas - after he responded to complaints of a pile of rubbish left in a bag in a corridor. Cardenas, a VR fan, quickly realised what the device actually was - and promptly posted a series of photos and videos on the internet. In an interview with Kotaku, Cardenas said the headset had later been claimed by the guest who had left it behind - with “not even a thank you”....

Food is seriously important in Valheim - it’s vital for maintaining your health while roaming through dangerous biomes, and it’s particularly important for boss battles. The snacks are often quite a challenge to make, requiring a mixture of farming, hunting and gathering to acquire the necessary resources, and you can’t just load up on one type of food: your Viking needs a balanced diet to stay happy. All of this, I think, means that making a stack of sausages feels hugely rewarding in Valheim… once you stop thinking about the origins of the entrails....
