These games include the PlayStation 1 title Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee (which is retailed at RM 20.00, so about four pounds) and the PSP game Ridge Racer 2 (via ResetEra). The sales page for Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee has revealed the game will now have newly added features, including “up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters”. Welcomely, the new release date is actually really soon. In fact, it is as soon as 15th August. This also means that Morty will soon be joining the fray. His arrival to the game will be a little after season one’s debut, with the new fighter now coming on 23rd August. There will also be other content drops throughout the season, with the developer stating that “everything we are bringing to you in Season 1 will not drop on the same day....

This tribute recognises the work of Visual Arts producer Daniel Kinnard, who passed away during the game’s production. His image can be seen immortalised within the game, where the developer has been reimagined as a pro baseball player for the Denver Skulls on a poster adorning the walls of the farmhouse players search when looking for Ellie. Sharing this image, animator Robert Morisson called Kinnard a “wonderful person” and asked that fans share this picture so “people can know his name”....

Nothing’s yet set in stone, but according to a new report by the Washington Post (£) that explores the impact of the demise of Adobe Flash on a whole generation of flash games, Neopets’ current development team is reportedly looking to bring it to Nintendo’s family-favourite handheld console. Journalist Shannon Liao revealed that during interviews for the article, the Neopets team reportedly said it is “thinking of bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch” but “declined to share further details”....

The show - which stars Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, and Lance Reddick - only debuted on 14th July, but Deadline reports that “as the drama did not have a particularly strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10 and cost vs. viewing is the streamer’s leading renewal criterion”, Netflix has declined to order a second series. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show is currently sitting at 55 per cent for critics, with an audience score of 27 per cent....

Though the Critterpedia explains when creatures come and go, you won’t know this information unless you have caught them first. Along with this announcement, Dan Greenawalt and the game’s director Chris Esaki popped in for a chat about their game. It’s the most technically advanced racing game ever apparently, so that’s exciting. We also got told about its dynamic time of day feature, the weather for each track and the inclusion of raytracing. This was all shown off with a clip from the fictional circuit known as Maple Valley. The twosome also says there’s a 48x improvement in the accuracy of the simulation - but, as Martin has asked, what does that mean, and how does it feel?...

The feature is the main addition in today’s Switch system software update v13.0.0, which is available to download now. Nintendo’s support page notes a couple of limitations. Up to two wireless controllers can be paired with a Switch while using Bluetooth audio, and headsets will be disconnected during local communication, such as when starting a wireless multiplayer game. To be fair, I guess in that situation you’re going to be shouting at each other in person....

Renovations on the building are now underway to transform the factory into a “Nintendo Gallery” where products from throughout the company’s history will be showcased, alongside exhibits and other experiences (thanks, Nintendo Life). The site was formerly Nintendo’s Uji Oguru Plant, a facility originally built in 1969 to print Hanafuda cards, before it became a customer service centre for product repairs. It’s based in Uji, just south of Kyoto in Japan where Nintendo is headquartered....

That’s according to a new report by Kotaku, which, citing a former supervisor at the Switch repair facility (run by United Radio under contract with Nintendo), claims the volume of repairs got so high - with “hundreds” of faulty controllers arriving each day - that work became “very stressful”, leading to high turnover in the department and “lots of” repair mistakes. Nintendo’s initial response to the Joy-Con drift problem, reportedly saw the company providing replacements for customers’ faulty Joy-Cons between 2017 and 2018; however, that policy is said to have eventually changed and repair staff were then required to repair every set of Joy-Cons received....

Pattern Recognition is a novel by William Gibson. It’s the first of a trilogy - like the Ramans, Gibson cannot help but worry out his preoccupations in threes; he’s at it again at the moment - and it’s also Gibson’s 9/11 novel. It’s deft in that regard - it captures the echoing numbness of global shock in all its billowing strangeness. But it’s also interesting for Gibsonians because this is Gibson, for what felt like the first time, exploring the present rather than the future....

People Can Fly’s looter shooter launched today across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S as well as straight into Xbox Game Pass and Google Stadia, and it is struggling to cope with the influx of players. I’ve spent some time this evening stuck on the initial authentication screen, which has prevented me from playing at all. Eventually, you’re presented with an “Internet Connection Error” message that lets you know you failed to connect to the Outriders servers....

This release will contain “dynamic new PVP content” with cross-platform play and progression, and promises the addition of fresh heroes, maps and modes. Oh, and skins you can buy. At launch, new tank hero the Junker Queen, the “ruthless Australian-born ruler of Junkertown” will join the franchise’s roster. Fresh maps will take you to New Queen Street in Toronto and Midtown Manhattan. There’s also the game’s new Push mode - “a symmetrical map type where teams battle to take control and advance a centrally-located robot deeper into enemy territory than the opposing team”....

Released back in 2013 and still tottering along today (its most recent expansion, Leviathan, was so disastrous its director issued an apology), Europa Universalis 4 gives players control of a country somewhere between 1444 to 1821 and lets them shape it into global significance through trade, diplomacy, colonisation, and war. It’s a supremely complicated beast (I ended up watching ten hours of YouTube tutorials before I could even begin to fathom its depths and make sense of its interface), but the core game is a dazzlingly rich thing, full of enthralling strategic possibilities, if you manage to crack its shell....
