Shrouded Islands, the now-available first instalment in Sea of Thieves’ new monthly schedule of limited-time story episodes, is not A Pirate’s Life in scope, ambition, or polish - but nor was it ever likely to be given the strict monthly cadence Rare has committed to. Regrettably, though, this opener also suffers in comparison to Rare’s previous, smaller-scale Tall Tales too. While those brought new ways to play or fresh twists on existing mechanics within the pleasing framework of a focused, compelling story, Shrouded Islands is a looser, lighter, less interesting experience, that, as the opening gambit in a bold new era of ongoing storytelling, fumbles half-heartedly into the spotlight when it should be a bellowing statement of things to come....

Rare initially teased Legend of the Veil during its Sea of Thieves’ 2022 roadmap reveal back in January, and with a release date for the adventure now confirmed, the developer has shared more on what players can expect to see come its arrival. While Sea of Thieves’ existing Pirate-Legend-focused Athena Voyages are little more than a clutch of Trading Company tasks strung together into one lengthy quest, Legend of the Veil is aiming to be rather more ambitious, blending the cinematic presentation of previous Tall Tales adventures - complete with cut-scenes, music, and voice work - with the randomness and replayability of standard voyages....

There are still very few details about this particular entry to the Silent Hill franchise. We do know its story is by Ryukishi07 (who created the When They Cry visual novel series), its characters and creatures are designed by Kera and its producer is Motoi Okamoto, whose name you may recognise from Nintendo. Development duties are being handled by Neobards Entertainment, which has previously worked with Capcom as a support studio on several its Resident Evil games including Re:Verse....

The demo, which has been played by over two million people, went live on 25th February. Developer People Can Fly made the announcement about this player’s feat yesterday, 12th March. That means this mystery player clocked 254 hours in just 15 days. That also means someone has played the demo for an average of just under 17 hours a day since it came out. It’s worth noting the Outriders demo provides a significant chunk of the first part of the game, and that progress - including obtained loot - carries forward into the retail game if you buy it....

There’s no audio, your controller vibrates like an alarm, the game fades in from the first-person perspective, and then you head to the bathroom mirror, groggy as you look at your default character skin. So when a new game launches on Roblox that’s not only starring the Blue Blur and friends but is officially licensed by Sega, then that’s more than enough to raise some cautious curiosity, especially when said platform is free and accessible to anyone with a smartphone or web browser. Roblox may already be home to various other Sonic fan games, but besides being an official release, Sonic Speed Simulator is also the work of Gamefam, the first professional company to treat Roblox as a proper game development platform....

This latest Marvel character to join Fortnite is one of four new skins teased today via a series of promotional images - each of which simply shows a hand reaching out of a puddle of gloop. Fortnite’s next season is set to begin this Sunday, 18th September, as its peaceful summer party gets consumed by chrome-coloured goo. Several other teasers with their own hands firm up leaks which have been rumbling around the Fortnite community over the past few weeks - that Spider-Gwen would be included in the next season’s battle pass, for example, and that it would also include a goth redesign for the game’s popular cat character Meowscles (or perhaps his offspring Kit?...

It seems that the Turtle brothers aren’t satisfied with their own success with Shredder’s Revenge have made their way into Spider-Man’s territory. Created by SpaceDasher, the mod lets you choose between Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello or Michelangelo to swing around as. Or maybe that should be swim around as? The mod looks incredible. SpaceDasher posted a video on YouTube showing Leonardo doing some stealth and the rigging is so smooth. The models are taken from the Turtles’ appearance in Smite from a couple of years ago, and SpaceDasher said they plan on including “every alternative skin in the future based off of every design the turtles had”....

The web game rose to popularity in the wake of Wordle and has players guessing the intro to pop songs second by second. Previously it was powered by Soundcloud, but now Swedish music streaming platform Spotify has acquired the game.
