It’s currently named Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade, and is described as “coming soon”. Jade will be set in ancient China, and let you parkour all over the country’s Great Wall as a player-created character. (So, no, you’re not playing as fan-favourite Shao Jun. But perhaps she’ll appear?) Details on Jade are thin on the ground, but a trailer made it look attractive enough. We’ll have to wait for more details on exactly how the series’ gameplay has been adapted for touchscreen controls....

The game will now launch in “2023-24”, Ubisoft confirmed this afternoon, as part of its first quarter of 2022 financial results. This seemingly means a shift back to the publisher’s next financial year, meaning we won’t see Avatar now until after 31st March 2023. Ubisoft had previously pencilled the game in for launch later this year, likely alongside the arrival of James Cameron’s much-delayed though not hugely-anticipated Avatar film sequel The Way of Water, which hits cinemas on 16th December....

Every once in a while, along comes a game I just can’t stop thinking about. Sometimes it’s just because of a single moment, like the boss fight with Ludwig, The Holy Blade in Bloodborne. Or like how Nier slowly lets you in on its story through multiple playthroughs. More often than not though, it’s because of how the world is realised. And I don’t think 2021 had a more fleshed out world than the metroidvania Unsighted....

For most of 2020 I was obsessed with a book, The Bells of Old Tokyo, by Anna Sherman. It’s a book about an awful lot of things, and I won’t do it the violence of trying to untangle any of that here. But one of the things it’s about is a coffee shop in Tokyo run by a man named Daibo. Please read this book. I won’t spoil much. All I need to say here is that Daibo’s Coffee Shop is a place of calm and tradition, a place where time slows and reflection is encouraged....
