Based on our testing, PS5 is most obviously the lead platform for development - it’s been solid throughout the review period, while we’ve had a bunch of problems with Xbox Series and especially the PC versions of the game (the latter of which is essentially unplayable right now). We’ll be talking about the various issues on other systems in a separate article, but to see Striking Distance’s vision best realised, it’s PS5 that’s the best place to play for now....

The Podcast is something we’ve been able to put time into again because of the Eurogamer subscription launch. This means it’s tied slightly to subscriptions, in that new episodes will be aired exclusively for Premium supporters for two weeks before being made available to all. Four iconic characters are available in the game - Son Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, and Beerus - as well as a number of new quests and modes. Players will now find a new Power Unleashed tab containing special limited-time quests and rewards that will track your rising Power Level. There are seven sets of quests and with each completed, players will earn a Dragon Ball - collect all seven to earn the Shenron Glider....

Fans of the game series will know Riley from her 2014 appearance in acclaimed DLC episode The Last of Us: Left Behind, where she was voiced by Yaani King. Here, in a narrative segment set several weeks prior to the events of the main game, Riley reunites with her old friend Ellie, completing a narrative arc begun in comic book prequel The Last of Us: American Dream. As reported by Deadline, Storm Reid - who stars in US teen drama series Euphoria and who featured in last year’s The Suicide Squad movie - will play Riley’s live-action incarnation in HBO’s upcoming Last of Us television show, appearing in a guest role....

In point of fact, Bloober employs both DXR-based hardware-accelerated ray tracing in The Medium and Nvidia DLSS comes along for the ride, principally in off-setting the additional cost in utilising RT features. But DLSS also improves upon native resolution image quality. In fact, in scenes we tested comparing Xbox Series X running at a higher native pixel-count to DLSS on PC, Nvidia’s AI upscaling managed to deliver palpably cleaner results....

During the game’s offtime, players were “encouraged” to play Warzone 2.0 for free, whilst developer Raven Software shifted its focus over. As promised, Warzone has been quietly relaunched as Caldera, albeit on life support, as Ishraq put it earlier. Caldera requires a separate installation from Warzone 2.0 (which is already itself quite beefy) and, as the name suggests, only contains the Caldera map. A massively interactive live event (MILE), the project is a collaboration between publisher Genvid, which specialises in these part-game, part-interactive stream, part-live show creations, with design and narrative input from The Walking Dead’s team at Skybound and funding from Facebook. The big sell is that Last Mile is a new chapter of The Walking Dead’s lore, which will unfold across the next couple of months based upon decisions made by players, with the resulting narrative becoming franchise “canon” in line with the original comic books....

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct as a Switch title, but will also be released on PS4. The base game will feature 385 songs and 104 characters from the Final Fantasy series. Players will be able to create their dream RPG party that will battle against enemies as players push buttons in time to the music. An extra 90 songs from other Square Enix titles are planned to be added post-launch as DLC, including tracks from Nier, The World Ends With You, and Chrono Trigger....

Publisher 2K revealed last month that there was an issue “causing the Hard Pass achievement/trophy to not be rewarded as intended”. The team is looking to get this sorted in an upcoming patch, but until then, players looking to get this award can trick the game into working as it should. To get hold of the Hard Pass achievement, in theory players need to simply decline help from Eliza Vorez (the game’s narrator of sorts) and move on....

While initially shared only with the game’s crowdfunding Fig backers a month ago alongside the sequel’s highly-anticipated release, the video is now available to all via the studio’s website. This information comes as part of Microsoft’s response to the Federal Trade Commission’s lawsuit against its planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard (something it called “unconstitutional”). Tucked away in the newly issued document’s many, many pages, Microsoft stated: “Xbox anticipates that three future titles - REDACTED - all of which are designed to be played primarily alone or in small groups - will be exclusive to Xbox and PCs.” It additionally pointed to the fact that “ZeniMax’s first two new games were made exclusive to PlayStation for one year post- launch”, these being Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo....

Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, has explained the reasoning in a Twitter thread, noting that the game has been received positively but that 72 percent of Chinese language reviews are negative. That’s due to the way this new game in the series, released today, has been promoted in China. The Total War series is incredibly popular in China despite not receiving an official release there. Total War: Three Kingdoms is the fastest selling game in the series thanks in part to Chinese players purchasing the international version....
