The addition is part of a general spruce up for Man of Medan and Little Hope, the first two entries in Supermassive’s Dark Pictures Anthology series. Other tweaks include new difficulty settings and QTE warnings, improved UI, increased walking speeds and more accessibility options including the ability to resize subtitles. In Man of Medan, players will be able to explore “Flooded”, which introduces “new gameplay and new deaths to the climatic ending of the game”, Supermassive said today....

Watson, who led the Saints Row 2 patch project at Volition, died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. In May, Watson’s illness caused him to step down from his position as Volition community manager, although he continued to work on the Saints Row 2 patch project. Watson was behind the mod that tackled issues with the PC port of Saints Row 2, dubbed the Gentlemen of the Row mod, as well as mods for Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row 4....

In Arcade Paradise, players are cast as Ashley, a teenager trying to transform the family’s small-town laundromat into a bustling retro arcade, somewhere in the 1990s. What follows is a game of two halves; on the one side, Ashley will need to complete dull chores - washing clothes, clearing out the rubbish, cleaning toilets (all given a suitably entertaining mini-game twist) - in order to raise the money needed to turn the King Wash laundromat into a booming arcade hangout, managing the business and investing profits along the way....

Warzone, which launched as a standalone free-to-play battle royale in March 2020 following the successful launch of 2019’s Modern Warfare soft reboot, was an overnight phenomenon fuelled by lockdowns that made billions of dollars for Activision. It’s seen three major maps: Verdansk, Rebirth and Caldera, sometimes awkward integration with Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, and crossovers with some of the biggest names in popular culture. Warzone signs off with a 6GB mid-season five update that includes a final set of quality of life improvements, and a “greatest hits” package of modes, with playlist rotations due to occur once per week....

It’s called Ubisoft+ Classics, and it’s is a cut-down version of the full Ubisoft+ subscription available on PC (which offers more than 100 games including brand new titles, premium editions and access to expansions and season passes). As part of PlayStation Plus’ new Extra and Premium tiers, you’ll get a growing selection of Ubisoft games including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a selection of older games such as Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4, Child of Light and Steep....

After hosting a workshop held to assuage concerns about the company’s pivot to NFTs - non-fungible tokens recorded in blockchains - Ubisoft reportedly issued the tokens as a thank you for the Breakpoint team’s sustained efforts to improve the beleaguered shooter. Ubisoft announced Quartz, its NFT platform for big-budget games, last December, revealing that players could resell in-game items with unique codes stamped on. And now it’s allegedly using that same platform to gift NFTs to its staff, too....

According to the Entertainment Retailers Association, 2020 revenues were £4.2bn, up 14.5 per cent on 2019. Video games were boosted by global lockdowns last year, and downloads soared. The ERA said the largest single segment of the games market is the digital games business, which includes everything from mobile and streamed games to downloads. This segment grew by 16.3 per cent to £3.6bn in 2020, with downloads, digital subscriptions (Xbox Game Pass, for example), and DLC all contributing heavily....

Virtua Fighter: Ultimate Showdown looks to be a remaster of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, the last installment which hit arcades way back in 2010. Final Showdown was itself the last iteration of Virtua Fighter 5, folding in new characters Taka-Arashi and Jean Kujo as well as introducing a more athletic moveset for its cast. Anyone with a PC copy of Watch Dogs: Legion will be able to nab Legion of the Dead via the Ubisoft Connect launcher. The survival-themed mode is still in alpha, and will come to consoles when it is ready to hit beta. “In a London filled with zombies, Albion soldiers and Clan Kelley enforcers are hoarding valuable supplies that you must get your hands on to ensure the survival of your crew,” Ubisoft explained in a blog post....

Nintendo will offer a deep dive into its ink-based first-person shooter, with around 30 minutes of news set to be broadcast online. Splatoon 3 is set to launch worldwide on 9th September, though we’ve still only had details in dribs and drabs - such as this Turf War gameplay footage below. As previously announced, Nintendo is set to launch a brand-new Nintendo Switch OLED bundle for the game, with a specially-themed Splatoon 3 console....

Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was initially released for Wii back in 2008, but never made it outside of Japan despite plans for a European launch. It tells the story of a young woman, Ruka Minazuki, who returns to the island where she was held captive along with a group of other girls, years after the event. Needless to say, ghostly hijinks ensue with players needing to deploy the series’ spirit-trapping Camera Obscura in order to ward off the island’s supernatural inhabitants and make it through to the end of the adventure....

Crystal Dynamics’ much-maligned superhero action game launches on Microsoft’s subscription program in complete form - it includes all previously released free content, including the Black Panther: War for Wakanda expansion and all the post-launch heroes and missions. In a blog post, Crystal Dynamics community coordinator Hunter Wolfe said Xbox Game Pass members will get to experience all Avengers’ content released beyond the Black Panther: War for Wakanda expansion, too. I doubt this includes Spider-Man, though....

This includes the biggest hitters from Microsoft’s first-party line-up for 2023, such as Bethesda’s Starfield, Arkane’s Redfall and the company’s own Forza Motorsport reboot. Of course, as is standard on Xbox, all of these will continue to be made available on day one as part of Xbox Game Pass. There’s no suggestion today of any other pricing being changed - such as for that subscription service, or for Xbox hardware....

Naka posted the photo on Twitter for the game’s 26th anniversary, but Ohshima has been edited out of the image. Why? It all relates to controversy where Naka was removed as director from Balan Wonderworld, a game he worked on with Ohshima. Balan Wonderworld was published by Square Enix, but Naka left the project after its disastrous launch in April 2021. Last year, Naka claimed the game was released in an unfinished state and he was removed from his position as director six months before launch....
