The original Modern Warfare 2 was huge, a cultural event after the breakout debut of the first Modern Warfare subtitle but also a remarkable reflection of that culture itself at the time. It was a bleak reflection of the west’s shared headspace in the late noughties, playing up on jingoism and melodrama and a general post-9/11, mid-forever war, Pearl Harbour-esque fear of American vulnerability to surprise attack. There was an argument, too - not that many tend to agree with it - that a close reading might find something almost, nearly, verging on an anti-imperialist message, what with its tale of ultra-nationalists inciting invasions and warmongering commanders-in-chief using their window to take the world for a ride....

Activision is yet to officially confirm it is making Warzone 2, but its existence emerged last night as part of a Bloomberg report which listed it as one of three upcoming Call of Duty games still to launch on PlayStation despite Microsoft’s planned $70bn takeover of Activision Blizzard. That reported stated Warzone 2 would arrive at some point next year, alongside another fully-fledged COD title, and on top of the next COD: Modern Warfare game this autumn....

Virgin Media said the battle royale’s update, which launched on 25th February, contributed to a 24-hour period in which the average user downloaded more than 20GB of data. That’s nearly 3.5GB more than the already record-breaking daily average of 2020. The Season 2 download weighed in at around 17GB. Swedish publication Breakit (via GamesIndustry.biz) reported on a union-led employee survey conducted in August that found almost half of the 133 staff who participated experienced “mistreatment”. According to Breakit, the survey results show the problems are mainly about bullying and gender discrimination", and “worst for women”. 69 percent of the women who responded said they had experienced mistreatment. We’ll talk about the PC versions first, as this is where both Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 have received the most love. In this case, I’d highly recommend watching the video embedded below, where Alex Battaglia experiences the maximum joy of having both Crysis and ray tracing once again combined into one glorious whole.
