Nightingale, described as a “shared world survival crafting game”, was initially announced a few years back, but got its first proper unveiling at last year’s The Game Awards. Its reveal was accompanied by an eye-catching trailer in which well-dressed ladies and gents travelled through portals to strange new worlds, full of wonderfully unsettling eldritch creatures. Inflexion was initially aiming to launch Nightingale into early access at some point this year, but the developer has now revised that plan, pushing the game’s early access release back into the “first half of 2023”....

The studio was set up by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, with other industry veterans recently joining. Announced back in August, Marvel’s Midnight Suns was originally set for March 2022. It’s now set to arrive sometime in the latter half of next year. Writing on Twitter last night, creative director Jake Solomon and senior franchise producer Garth DeAngelis released a joint statement explaining that the “very tough decision to delay” would be used to “add more story, cinematics and overall polish”. “We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly,” the pair wrote....

That’s coming from FTC lawyer James Weingarten, who took part in a pretrial hearing on Tuesday to discuss Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard for a record-breaking $69bn. Back in December, the FTC revealed its intention to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, claiming should the deal be allowed to proceed, it would enable the company to suppress its fellow games industry competition. “Microsoft has already shown that it can and will withhold content from its gaming rivals,” the FTC’s director of bureau competition Holly Vedova stated at the time, while also referring back to Microsoft’s previous acquisition of ZeniMax....
