BattlEye - which is used in games like Destiny 2, Rainbow Six Siege, and PUBG - announced that as well as running on Linux and MacOS, it also supports Wine and Proton, the latter of which is used in Steam’s upcoming handheld device. “BattlEye has provided native Linux and Mac support for a long time and we can announce that we will also support the upcoming Steam Deck (Proton),” BattlEye announced on Twitter (thanks, PC Gamer)....

The free-to-play battle royale game - which released on Steam in November 2020 after almost 18-months as an EA Origin exclusive - hit 198,235 simultaneous players on Steam yesterday, its highest ever concurrent user peak according to SteamDB (thanks, Dexerto). The recent surge in new and returning players checking out Season 8 means Apex Legends is currently the fifth most-played game on Steam right now, making it more popular than GTA 5, Rainbow Six Siege, and Team Fortress 2....

GamesIndustry.biz reports the company behind Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Candy Crush is closing all its publishing offices in Europe as part of a reorganisation that will see the business centralised within one hub in the UK. Some staff, including those in the UK, have been told their jobs are now at risk and could face redundancy after a consultation period....

For the former, an announcement on Twitter stated the game would be pulled from 31st July, although existing owners will not be impacted. “The initial digital game was released 9 years ago, and we no longer feel the current quality and reliability are on par with what Pandemic deserves on digital platforms,” reads the statement. It’s yet another sign that the troubled game - which only released at the beginning of March - seemingly continues to struggle to maintain a player base on PC (Babylon’s Fall is also out on PS4/5, but there’s no similar way for us to monitor player counts for PlayStation consoles). Just a couple of weeks back, we reported how SteamCharts - a site that, predictably enough, charts the performance of games on Steam - noted that in mid-April, global players on PC dropped below ten....

As Eurogamer reported earlier this morning, Elden Ring currently sits with a “mixed” Steam user rating despite its widespread critical acclaim. Many negative reviews note the game’s current visual stutters on PC. Yesterday, Digital Foundry listed this visual stutter among a number of issues it had uncovered during an early appraisal of the game with its current 1.02 patch applied. More on that below. Now, Bandai Namco has said sorry for the issues players have faced when playing the highly-anticipated Elden Ring at launch....

Really, though, what could make this Battlefield stand apart isn’t so much how it’s moving forwards and more about how it’s going back to what DICE does best and doubling down on it. There’s no single-player campaign. There will be no battle royale. What there is, at first glimpse, is all the chaos, unpredictability and unprecedented scale that’s at the heart of the series’ appeal, dialled up to a new degree of intensity....

That’s 3pm UK time on Wednesday 9th June, to be exact. EA made the announcement of its announcement via a teaser in the tweet, below. It reveals little save the Battlefield logo we saw from the leaked video Eurogamer reported was meant for internal use only. The leaked video - and this officially-released teaser - confirm a near future setting for the upcoming DICE-developed shooter. In May, EA discussed how Battlefield 6 would benefit from its development focus having been on current-gen consoles - PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S - even though it will also launch on last-gen hardware - PS4 and Xbox One....

The final DLC in the year-long campaign hits the PC, Mac and Stadia version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Deadlands on 1st November, then PlayStation and Xbox on 16th November. Bethesda went into detail on the Deadlands DLC in the stream, below: Gates of Oblivion’s plot is set 800 years before the events of Bethesda’s 2006 role-playing game The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The story here is about finally foiling Mehrunes Dagon’s plan to rule Nirn in what Bethesda says is a 20-hour finale....

Task Force 141 is deployed in an unnamed South American country, as it seeks out a terrorist that appears to be allied with drug traffickers. Essentially, the story entangles the War on Terror with the War on Drugs. Infinity Ward hasn’t shied away from controversial conflicts from previous Modern Warfare titles, with the 2019 reboot set firmly in the War on Terror as you are deployed in a fictitious Middle Eastern country in a conflict that’s reminiscent of the ongoing Syrian civil war....

Nintendo announced the casting of numerous Mushroom Kingdom names tonight in its latest Nintendo Direct, including Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day as Luigi. Jack Black will voice Bowser. Keegan-Michael Key will play Toad. Seth Rogen will voice Donkey Kong. Announcing the names, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto said that Mario would talk quite a bit in this film, though not with the usual voice of long-time Super Mario star Charles Martinet....

Citizen Sleeper is a mixture of board game and role-playing game. The role-playing part is familiar: you experience a space station playing area through text, and there’s a character sheet with skills you can improve as you level up. There are some eye-catching character illustrations to decorate it, and a simply rendered space station floating in the background, but it’s mostly text and imagination that fuel the adventure.
