As reported by Cheesemeister on Twitter (thanks, VGC), retailers in Japan have notified consumers that it is unable to restock the PS4 500GB Glacier White, PS4 1TB Jet Black, PS4 1TB Glacier White, PS4 2TB Jet Black, and PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White “due to the manufacturer ending production”. As yet there’s been no formal confirmation by Sony, but it coincides with a recent message on PlayStation.com that said it had “no plans to restock [PS4 Pros] in future”....

According to Variety, it’s just one of several D&D projects currently underway - apparently Hasboro film studio eOne is also in talks about a Dungeon & Dragons project - although Kolstad’s treatment “is expected to craft a story that will capture crucial aspects of the franchise through a live-action lens”. As you might well expect, not much else is yet known about the project - Variety says “details on where Kolstad plans to take the storyline or how he intends to expand the franchise have not yet been revealed” - but it’s thought it hopes to capitalise on the boost in new D&D fans that started playing during the COVID-19 pandemic....

Fatesworn continues the journey of the player’s Fateless One character after the Crystal War, now tasked with defeating the God of Chaos. The expansion adds a considerable amount of content, including a new storyline, new areas, quests and missions, and procedurally generated Chaos Realm dungeons across the map. There’s also a new gameplay mechanic involving “chaos” that’s connected to weapons, enemies, rifts and portals. In addition, the level cap will be raised to 50 and there will be new items, weapons and armours....

The detail comes from a 2003 issue of Nintendo Dream magazine, which popular YouTube channel Did You Know Gaming? has now translated. Zelda series boss Eiji Aounuma was all set to use a theremin as Link’s musical instrument of choice, with each control stick on the GameCube pad set to control each of Link’s hands as he manipulated its volume and pitch. Why the theremin? Apparently a film had recently released in Japan detailing the electronic instrument’s creation in 1919 by Russian physicist Leon Theremin....

Waikuteru (whose name you may recognise from the Breath of the Wild ‘Second Wind’ mod) worked with fellow modder Sockpoppet to create this haunting DLC. It includes new challenges, armour, weapons and NPCs. Oh, and there is also a new boss to defeat - The Phantom Rider. “The time of the year has come and so came the mysterious creature too,” proclaims a bodiless voice in the DLC. This voice then bids Link to make haste to Korok Forest, to help these spirits of Hyrule before it is “too late”....

Specifically, MTG Arena arrives in early access on Android on 28th January. Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be an equivalent iOS release. However, the game will eventually be released in full for iOS, alongside Android, “later this year”. If your Android device can handle the game, you’re free to join in. The scene everyone’s talking about right now - a scene at the beginning of the game where a girl deftly slices off the face of her twin sister’s corpse - is not the scene from Martha is Dead that we should be talking about. I don’t think it’s the scene we will be talking about. There are several sequences, in fact, that may spark the outrage of pearl clutchers everywhere, scenes that are so gratuitously obscene that even I - a card-carrying lover of deliciously dark stories with a penchant for psychological horror - struggle to justify, and that some may struggle to stomach....

The award-winning actress will lend her voice to Lara Croft in the new Netflix show, which is set to follow the events of the rebooted Tomb Raider game trilogy. In other words, Hayley Atwell’s Croft will be the same, if slightly older, version of Lara played by Camilla Luddington in the Tomb Raider reboot and its sequels Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The Golden Globe and Olivier Award-nominated actress is next due to appear in Mission Impossible 7, which is set for release in September 2022....

Taking a more global look at the conversion though, there’s much to commend Nixxes’ efforts. The game supports all aspects ratios we could test, from the 16:9 of most modern screens to the 21:9 and 32:9 ultra-wide variants, the 16:10 of Steam Deck and even 4:3 for those interested in an old-school CRT experience. On top of this, there’s adjustable field of view support too. Per other Nixxes titles, there’s also fullscreen and exclusive fullscreen support - and it is properly implemented with resolutions and refresh rates independent of what the desktop is configured to....

This latest version of the so-called Happy Ending Mod adds many of the tweaks from previous iterations into a package which slots neatly into the Legendary Edition of BioWare’s space opera trilogy. So, if you would like to guarantee your Shepard always survives and gets a big ol’ hug from their chosen romance partner, read on. This fan-made creation cuts large chunks of BioWare’s original ending, and even some scenes from the Extended Cut, which the Legendary Edition includes as standard....

On Friday, 22nd January, Microsoft announced a significant price rise for Xbox Live Gold. One month would go up from £6.99 to £7.99, three months up from £17.99 to £21.99, and six months up from £29.99 to £42.99. The announcement was heavily criticised, coming as it did amid a pandemic and a global financial crisis. It was also seen as a bid to push users towards a subscription to the more expensive Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes Xbox Live Gold....

The acquisition required approval from the European Commission as well as the United States Securities and Exchange Commission before it could be completed. As we reported in February, Microsoft created a new subsidiary called Vault to merge with ZeniMax as part of its proposed takeover of the company. The use of the name Vault for this subsidiary is surely a nod to Bethesda’s Fallout series, which contains a raft of vaults meant to protect people from nuclear destruction....

That’s according to a Venturebeat report, which states Microsoft will soon confirm the event publicly. The event is not described as a games showcase - so don’t expect to see much of under-wraps projects like Starfield. Instead, the presentation will focus on some of the big questions around Microsoft’s acquisition, which receieved regulatory approval this week. Those questions include: will upcoming Bethesda and other ZeniMax projects become full-on Xbox exclusives?...

Originally released on Nintendo Switch earlier this year, the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise is due out on 12th January. The demo includes five quests: two tutorials, plus hunts to slay a Great Izuchi (beginner), a Mizutsune (intermediate), and Magnamalo (advanced). All 14 weapon types are available, so you can experiment with your favourites well in advance of release. The slaying quests can also be played in co-op mode....

We were originally expecting Blood Bowl 3 back in August 2021, though its claret-filled casualties failed to turn up on time. Nacon belatedly confirmed it had delayed the project, blaming production delays due to the pandemic. A further delay last year saw Blood Bowl 3 pushed to a late 2022 launch. Here’s hoping today’s final revision to February 2023 is the one that now sticks. For the uninitiated, Blood Bowl is a mix of fantasy and American football, blending Warhammer and sports in a mess of touchdowns and turn-based combat....
