The reveals will be made in the company’s first ever digital showcase event, to be broadcast on 17th September at 8pm UK time (that’s 5pm Eastern, or 12pm Pacific). This showcase will be fronted by Geoff Keighley - who else? - and be shown on YouTube, Twitch and Steam (no word yet on 8chan). It’s hard to keep track of all the studios which THQ Nordic has gobbled up over the years, not least because its acquisition-heavy parent company Embracer also used to be named THQ Nordic for a time....

An early Steam version of the game is available to download now, as part of a closed beta test before a full launch next month, some time in October. (You can request access via its Steam page.) There’s a whiff of Diablo Immortal to Torchlight Infinite, which has numerous ways to spend money within the game. Monetisation will include a season pass, monthly pass, auction house and premium currency bundles....

Echtra Games will now join Zynga’s portfolio of studios and work with CSR Racing developer NaturalMotion on “a new, yet to be announced RPG for cross-platform play”. In a statement on the purchase, reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Zynga boss Frank Gibeau said Echtra would help grow Zynga’s many mobile franchises to PC and console audiences. Echtra Games was founded in 2016 by Max Schaefer, a co-founder of original Torchlight 1 and 2 developer Runic Games and veteran of the Diablo series....

It follows the recent TwitchCon Amsterdam event that saw nearly 14,500 people attend, an increase of 65 percent compared to the previous Berlin-held event in 2019. That popularity is in part testament to the rise of the streaming platform during the pandemic, which now encompasses audiences far outside gaming. The update is available from today until 1st November, although Two Point Studios promises some items and costumes will be kept in the game permanently. A brief trailer during the September PlayStation Showcase showed off some nicely mud-splattered faces, sunsets, and seemingly silky frame rates - and little else in terms of details, but the PlayStation blog notes that while the PS5 version is coming “early 2022,” the PC version is “in development by our partners at Iron Galaxy and will release shortly after the PS5 version,” with more details on that to come.

Speaking to Digital Trends during a promotional tour for the Uncharted film - which finally releases on 11th February in the UK following a troubled development spanning multiple directors and lasting well over a decade - Fleischer revealed, “I’m actually working on Jak and Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation, which I think would be really cool to bring to life”. Jak and Daxter is, perhaps, an odd title to adapt on the face of it, given that there hasn’t been a new entry in the Naughty-Dog-developed series since 2009’s The Lost Frontier, but there’s no denying the games’ bold, breezy, and already strongly cinematic aesthetic has plenty of family friendly appeal that would comfortably lend itself to the big screen....

Todd Howard said Bethesda had been approached by several producers for “10 years plus” who wanted to make a screen adaptation of the series, but the company turned down offers as they felt they weren’t suitable. “One of the people I’ve always wanted to do it was Jonathan Nolan,” Howard continued, stating his love of Nolan’s and Lisa Joy’s work. Once Howard managed to connect with Nolan, he asked Nolan if a Fallout adaptation would interest him....

Saber Interactive’s hotly-anticipated (by me) sequel shows Ultramarines Space Marine Lieutenant Titus stomp and shoot and generally smash to bits the xenos scum that is the Tyranids (they’re the evil aliens, Tom). The setup here is pretty simple: the Tyranids are devouring worlds (nom nom) and it’s up to the Ultramarines to stem the tide. Cue big battles in which one man army Titus teaches the ’nids a lesson in brutality....

The three clips, below, show off a decent chunk of gameplay. There are typical turn-based features here, with the Blood Angels chapter of the Space Marines taking on the Tyranids with movement set out on square tiles. Battlesector is described as “battle-scale”, and based on the gameplay what we have here is a scale bigger than leading turn-based strategy game XCOM, but smaller than the likes of Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon....

Continuing the numbers station theme from the previous season, and building on the likes of Uplink Stations and crashed satellites, these are points of interest dotted around the map. Despite Season 5 debuting in mid-August, it wasn’t until September 21st - after the mid-season Reloaded update - that Mobile Broadcast Stations came to life as part of the Numbers event. Currently, as of Warzone Season 4, you can no longer complete this activity....

While the original game may almost be old enough to pop down to the Mos Eisley Cantina for a Fuzzy Tauntaun or two, since its inception, the LEGO Star Wars video game brand has spawned a surprising amount of adventures both old and new. Some of these games have been lost in the sands of time and are either no longer playable, no longer canon to the series, or both, but all have been included in the list video above....

Between swinging through trees as a gibbon, running a postal service as a kiwi bird, or getting invested in the majestic art of power washing, I experienced plenty that I’d have otherwise never known. My own personal standout was We Were Here Forever, developed by Dutch team Total Mayhem Games. Being perfectly honest, I wasn’t familiar with this co-op puzzle series beforehand, and Forever marks the fourth entry. Trapped inside Castle Rock by dark forces, I was joined by a stranger for this, and this demo gave us 20 minutes to escape....

Though we haven’t got much in the way of details about it yet, the extra Bowser’s Fury looks like some big expansion for the main game that we haven’t seen before. Solid info is thin, but a trailer showed Mario and that little snot Bowser Jr. (armed with the paintbrush from Mario Sunshine) working together to bring down a larger and more monstrous Bowser than perhaps we’ve seen before. Also, at one point Mario seems to turn into a Super Saiyan Cat Kaiju?...

For the uninitiated, the aim of Wordle is to work out a daily five-letter word within six guesses. The fewer the guesses, the better - and if you fail to guess it at all, you’ll break your streak. The latter is why working out today’s Wordle answer is such a priority, as players pride themselves on keeping their streak going. So why gamble on a risky final guess when you can learn a few clues and, failing that, get the definitive answer?...

Since launch, Wordle’s puzzles have drawn from the same list of five-letter words - originally totalling 2,315, but now down by six - with a new solution being presented each day. Now, though, that list will be fully curated by Wordle’s new dedicated editor, Tracy Bennett. “Wordle’s gameplay will stay the same,” the publication explains in its announcement, “and answers will be drawn from the same basic dictionary of answer words”....

ORIGINAL STORY 5pm UK: Klarna, the Swedish financial company that handles the credit payment process for Xbox All Access packages in the UK, is facing government regulation of its buy-now, pay-later services following a report by the Financial Conduct Authority. The Woolard Review - which was commissioned by the FCA to investigate BNPL credit agreements such as those offered by Klarna, Clearpay and PayPal - found that while BNPL products promise split payments with no interest, it would be “relatively easy” for a consumer to amass £1000 of debt by using multiple BNPL lenders....
