What it reminds me of, I think - it took me a while to put it all together - is Star Maker, a 1937 novel by Olaf Stapledon, and one of the weirdest, most ambitious science fiction novels I’ve ever read....

The report comes from developer People Can Fly (via Tweak Tower). Here, the company revealed the game is yet to make its publisher (Square Enix) any revenue. This was something that was suspected in August last year, when the developer said Square Enix was yet to pay it a royalty fee. But, even in the several months following that initial statement, no royalty fee ended up coming People Can Fly’s way in 2021....

The news comes via Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller in a newly released developer video, and his spin, it has to be said, is a little weird, framing the beta phases Blizzard has planned for the rest of the year as some sort of generous bounty for those existing Overwatch players who’ve been starved of content since the developer opted to focus its attention entirely on Overwatch 2. It’s a game that seeks to serve up a heap of classic theme park management action, but even speaking as a huge management sim fan that’s happy to hoover up anything the genre has to offer, Planet Coaster comes up disappointingly short if you’re looking for a tycoon game with mechanical depth and interesting strategic play....

As part of Sony’s agreement with Activision, Call of Duty games since 2015 had exclusive content for PlayStation owners, including game modes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) had a timed exclusive survival mode in Spec Ops, while Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War had an exclusive Zombies mode called Onslaught. As expected, the changes go a long way to answering fan criticism of the way Pokémon Go has handled Mega Evolution since it was introduced in August 2020 - in particular, adding the ability to re-Mega Evolve a creature without energy cost after it has been Mega Evolved once.
