Maquette is a recursive puzzler, primarily - another stylish, concept-heavy indie from arthouse publisher Annapurna Interactive - and the core is excellent. Each level, as such, occurs under a large, domed-roof structure, several stories high. Beneath this giant dome are four gated puzzle areas arranged opposite each other, crossroads-like, and in the middle is another dome, this time only about two stories high. Beneath that middle dome is a waist-high replica of the dome you’re in: four puzzle areas, an even smaller dome in the middle....

The Booster Course Pass contains a total of 48 tracks, split into six dollops of eight courses to be released from now until late 2023. A datamined image said to be from the game has set fan tongues wagging - as it appears to show thumbnails of future Booster Course Pass additions. Fans think the image below shows fan favourites such as Mario Kart Wii tracks Maple Treeway and Koopa Cape, plus plenty more additions from mobile spin-off Mario Kart Tour....

Of course, I may be over-estimating the capabilities there, considering Martin found it to be a “glorious toy hemmed in by a few key restrictions” in his Mario Kart Live Home Circuit review. Nevertheless, this cool bit of tech is the cheapest it’s ever been - so that might be enough to finally tempt you with a purchase. You get all the checkpoints and markings you need to place to set up a track in the box (plus a download code for the game on Switch) but you’ll need to grab both sets if you want to race against anyone, as only one kart is included in each pack....

Earlier this month, it was announced the game would be censored on Sony platforms - while the historical horror game’s PC and Xbox versions would remain intact. IGN has now detailed the numerous cuts, and discussed them with Martha is Dead’s developer and publisher, who confirmed they came at Sony’s request. PlayStation, meanwhile, declined to comment. Our hands on was about an hour long and took place in Chapter 5 of the game. The Guardians are locked in something of a legal dispute with the Nova Corps, to whom they owe a pretty big fine, so they’re headed to the spirit of Xandar AKA The Rock - a Nova outpost - to smooth things over. Prior to this point in the story, they’ve been in contact with Ko-Rel, a Nova centurion, and her daughter Nikki, who asks for the team’s help at the Rock as something strange seems to be going on there....

Marvin’s imminent arrival was teased last week as Season 2 got underway, but he officially joins the line-up today, bringing Multiversus’ total number of playable fighters up to 23 - with Marvin joining recent additions such as Black Adam and Gremlins’ Gizmo and Stripe. Marvin can be unlocked with 3000 Gold, 1 Character Ticket, or 700 Gleamium, and features three signature moves. There’s his B-23 Bubble Blaster, giving players the power to launch bubble projectiles, and that’s joined by his K-62 Projectile Modulator - basically a big red button that will reverse the direction of allied projectiles....

The accusation appears in a 27-page rebuttal of Sony’s recent objections to Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard buyout, made to Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) as part of its investigation. Much of Sony’s argument had focused on Call of Duty - which it claimed had “no rival” and was “so popular that it influences users’ choice of console” - with the PlayStation maker suggesting, among other things, that the inclusion of Call of Duty on Microsoft’s Game Pass service would hamper its ability to compete....

This browser has had positive reviews on PC, and should provide support for Chromium-powered services such as Google Stadia - though we’ll wait to see how it runs first (thanks, The Verge). Microsoft could also explore this method of browser-based game streaming to bring its own xCloud service to Xbox consoles. In a statement on its website, the European Commission said it had made the decision after its preliminary investigation showed Microsoft’s acquisition may “significantly reduce competition on the markets for the distribution of console and PC video games, including multi-game subscription services and/or cloud game streaming services, and for PC operating systems”. It drew particular attention to its concerns Microsoft has a “potential economic incentive” to prevent competitors from accessing Activision Blizzard’s “high-profile and highly successful games” upon closure of the deal, specifically highlighting the Call of Duty series - something Microsoft has repeatedly insisted it will not do....

It’s the series’ debut in Capcom’s RE Engine - indeed, it’s the RE Engine’s debut on the Switch - and the first proper dedicated Monster Hunter for Nintendo’s hybrid device following the port of the 3DS’ Generations back in 2018. Generations’ director Yasunori Ichinose returns to the director’s chair for Rise, bringing a fair few ideas from the breakout success that was Monster Hunter World. The map’s more diverse, with no need for loading screens between areas, while other new additions include the palamutes - canine companions who’ll help you sniff out monsters while also serving as mounts - and most excitingly the introduction of a wire bug, a device that acts like a grappling hook and allows you to traverse all sorts of terrain....

For those previously unfamiliar with Koei Tecmo’s long-running Monster Rancher series (and I count myself in that number), its blend of sim-like creature-rearing and battling originally debuted on PlayStation back in 1997, meaning next year marks its 25th anniversary. Koei Tecmo previously revealed it’s releasing versions of the first two Monster Rancher games on Switch in the west this December as part of the series’ birthday celebrations (the first time Monster Rancher has travelled west in over a decade), but we now know those anniversary festivities will also extend to shoving one of the games’ most iconic monsters - yellow one-eyed worm-thing Suezo - into a Monkey Ball too....

Netflix shared the news - which comes just shy of a year since the streaming service took its first tentative steps into gaming - on its website, saying Spry Fox’s focus on “cosy, original” games would help it “accelerate our creative development in another beloved genre and add to the growing variety of Netflix’s games catalogue that will have something for everyone.” It’s unclear what today’s news means for Spry Fox’s previously announced publishing partnership with Epic Games, which was intended to result in a “multiplatform nonviolent persistent” MMO “designed to encourage friendship and reduce loneliness in the world”....

It follows the antics of Cuphead and Mugman as they aim to thwart the devil, with many scenes in the trailer inspired by bosses from the game. The show will debut on 18th February exclusively on Netflix. A new website for the show has also launched, where fans can acquire souls for various actions leading up to the show’s release. Also on the way is the game’s DLC, The Delicious Last Course, featuring new playable character Ms....

As reported by Polygon, Wordle users will no longer be able to try words such as “whore”, “bitch” and “sluts”. From now on, if players do try and enter any of these words, they will be greeted with the “not in word list” message. However, at the time of writing, users can still use the arguably equally, if not more offensive, words of “twats”, “minge”, “shits”, “cunts” and “fucks”. These remaining words are perhaps still able to be used as guesses as they have a certain British-ness about them....

Console launch sales are always restricted to the stock available to retailers. But there has also been a question mark over how attractive a prospect the £309 OLED is for those looking to upgrade. GfK Entertainment figures (via GamesIndustry.biz) show last week was the UK’s 14th biggest for Switch sales ever, and best week ever outside of the original Switch launch and peak Christmas/Black Friday periods....

Adding friends on Nintendo Switch has always been slightly cumbersome, but Nintendo has made a step towards making the process a bit more streamlined on its app. You can now send friend requests from within the app by typing in a friend code, nicely complementing the update from March we reported on that allowed users to easily copy their friend code.
