Techland has announced its newest Dying Light patch for PS5 will go live today (8th March) which will allow players using performance mode to get 60fps in full HD resolution, while balanced mode will target 60fps in QHD resolution. Finally, PS5 users playing in high-resolution mode will get 30fps in 4K. This update will also be applied to Xbox Series X consoles in “just a few days”, although no specific date has been given as yet....

The roughly $20m pay cut was signalled last summer, when EA acknowledged “stockholder feedback” from a non-binding but decisive say-on-pay vote. In a nutshell, stockholders said EA’s execs were being handed pay awards from the company money pot that were too large and too frequent. In response, EA said it would make “substantial changes” to the pay of executives. Now, a fresh company filing spotted by Axios confirms just that....

As previously reported, a number of high profile traders had their accounts hacked and cleared of FIFA points and coins worth thousands of pounds. EA has now released a full statement in response. “Through our initial investigation we can confirm that a number of accounts have been compromised via phishing techniques,” it reads. “Utilising threats and other ‘social engineering’ methods, individuals acting maliciously were able to exploit human error within our customer experience team and bypass two-factor authentication to gain access to other player accounts....

Earlier this week Eurogamer reported on how the FIFA community had unearthed direct messages that appeared to show an EA employee selling coveted Ultimate Team cards for thousands of pounds on the black market. These direct messages mentioned FUT Icon cards in packages priced 750-1000 euros. In one WhatsApp message, three Prime Icon Moments cards were offered for 1700 euros. Icon cards are among the most sought after in FIFA Ultimate Team....

The newly released digital soundtrack runs a total of 67 tracks, variously composed by Tsukasa Saitoh, Shoi Miyazawa, Yuka Kitamura, Yoshimi Kudo, and Tai Tomisawa - many of whom are long-time From Software collaborators, having worked on the likes of the Dark Souls series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne. The musical highlights are, of course, many, but personal favourites include Elden Ring’s unexpectedly triumphant opening theme, the discordant beauty of Renella’s theme, the ethereal swell of Limgrave’s theme (which I’ve accidentally fallen asleep to, controller in hand, more than I’d care to admit), and Mohg, Lord of Blood’s theme - which is basically a part of me now, I had to listen to it so many times trying to defeat the prong-waving bugger....

You can take down the Ulcerated Tree Spirit either solo or co-op with another player or NPC, although the latter is definitely easier. In a press release, Embracer discussed its process of buying Middle-earth Enterprises, although it did not disclose the sum of this deal, citing “commercial reasons” for this decision. This deal will mean that Embracer will own the rights to motion pictures, video games, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions relating to Tolkien’s works. On this, Embacer said this deal will open up opportunities to explore “additional movies based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn and other characters from the literary works of JRR Tolkien, and continue to provide new opportunities for fans to explore this fictive world through merchandising and other experiences....

Six games will initially support Epic Achievements, including the new Alan Wake Remastered, Zombie Army 4, Kena, Pillars of Eternity, Hades and Rocket League. Bronze tier Epic Achievements will offer between five and 45XP, Silver will dole out 50-95XP, and Gold will gift 100-200XP. Unlocking 1000XP in a game will then net you the Platinum, which will pour a further 250XP on top of your total. These Epic Achievements differ from the current achievement system Epic offers....

Capcom kicked the show off with a new trailer for Monster Hunter Rise expansion Sunbreak, which launches 30th June. The video bigged up the return of the jungle region, Espinas from the Monster Hunter Frontier series, and Gore Magala, the flagship monster from Monster Hunter 4. Surprise! A Sunbreak demo launches on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch tomorrow, 14th June. There are a raft of title updates planned for Monster Hunter Rise after the Sunbreak expansion comes out, too....

Experiment 101 was founded by former members of Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios, and Biomutant, its debut title, aims to build on the familiar open-world formula by giving players the opportunity to customise their animal protagonist with different mutations, bio-mechanical body parts, and gear - affecting the stats and abilities available as they progress across the expansive, plague-ridden landscape in a bid to save the Tree of Life. The end result is a surprisingly vibrant sort of post-apocalypse, combining exploration (both on the ground and in the air) with heavily customisable gunplay, martial-arts-inspired combat, and a branching, mission-based narrative....

Karpyshyn served as lead writer for Mass Effect 1 and 2, though left BioWare part-way through the second game’s development. Discussing the trilogy in a new reddit AMA, Karpyshyn said that when he was in the Mass Effect 2 writers room, BioWare had “some very ideas planned out”. “Basically, it involved luring the Reapers through the Mass Relays then detonating the entire network to wipe them out…” Karpyshyn revealed, “but also destroying/damaging the relays and isolating every galactic community from the others....

Fallout 3 likely needs no introduction, given its lofty place in the gaming pantheon. Released back in 2008, it was Bethesda’s first foray into the Fallout universe (1 and 2 were the work of Black Isle Studios), expanding on the open-world RPG freedom of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion to deliver a sprawling, dizzyingly rich post-apocalyptic jaunt through The Capital Wasteland. An “embarrassment of riches” is what Eurogamer called Fallout 3 in 2008, describing it as a “thrilling, all-consuming experience that will absorb you for weeks… as you fall in love with the relentless excitement, incredible atmosphere, sense of place and sheer choice....

Following the termination of FIFA’s partnership with EA earlier this year - which will result in the latter’s long-running football series being rebranded as EA Sports FC from 2023 - FIFA president Gianni Infantino insisted, “I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans.” To that end, it said it had already started engaging with publishers, studios, and investors to create a major new simulation football title for 2024, but would first be launching a number of “non-simulation games” toward the end of this year....

It arrives on 16th December, available via the Epic Games Store. The package includes the Intergrade expansion that’s currently only available on PlayStation 5, as well as a Photo Mode. A new trailer was shown at The Game Awards with gameplay from both the main game and the expansion. In addition to 4K support, HDR support, XInput and DirectInput compliant controller support, and keyboard and mouse support, the game will aim to run on the highest PC specs for performance up to 120fps....

The new DLC made me think of Mario too, but a much earlier incarnation. I can still remember the time I reached Sky Land, or World 5, in Super Mario 3. I explored the map and then swooped up into the air, where I found the second half of the world’s challenges nestled within clouds. This is Finding the Flowzone. It takes OlliOlli World and thrusts you up into the clouds....
