Inquisitor - Martyr is a Diablo-esque take on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, casting players as Inquisitors who must battle their way, either solo or with friends, through a “haunted fortress-monastery which hides a terrible secret from the past”. It features cover-based combat, four classes (Psyker, Crusader, Assassin, and Tech-Adept, with the new Sororitas class due at a later date), a procedurally generated mission system, skill trees, a wide range of weapons and vehicles, two-player local co-op on consoles - as well as four-player online multiplayer - and more....

One moment that sticks out for me was the launch of first expansion, The Burning Crusade, in January 2007. I remember covering the midnight launch at HMV in London’s Oxford Street and being gobsmacked by the size and fervour of the crowd. This was something of the scale of a console launch - beyond it, frankly - only for an expansion pack for an online game. Not only were people there in huge numbers, but there was a specificity, an emotional tenor to their ardour that I would see on an even grander scale at BlizzCon later that year - something more tribal, more communal than the excitement of the console fans....

Tekken: Bloodline will of course feature all your favourite fighters competing at The King of Iron Fist Tournament. Jin seems to be the lead character in the show, on a revenge path against a monstrous evil that destroyed his family. Inevitably, that leads him to the iconic fighting tournament. Tekken: Bloodline follows the Castlevania and League of Legends animated series, both of which have been well-received by fans....

But this patch isn’t really more than a palette cleanser for the studio; what becomes apparent after spending a few hours with the next-gen update is there isn’t a great deal to it. And I don’t say that to trash it: what’s there is more generous than I’d imagined a next-gen update would be - there are quality of life and content additions that go above and beyond what I originally expected and, I think, what the studio expected to do....

But a lot has changed since then. Doug Cockle no longer teaches there; he was debating a return to full-time acting when we talked, and shortly after, did exactly that. Meanwhile, The Witcher became a household name, propelled into the mainstream by the Netflix TV show. The star of that show, Henry Cavill, turned out to be an open admirer of Cockle’s work, too, being a keen game-player himself. He even invited Cockle to the season one premiere in London, to hang out....

Wii Sports became a staple in living rooms back in 2006 thanks to its easy-to-play selection of sports that required skill to master, were a lot of fun, and could be played with others. Nintendo Switch Sports is brining back two of the sports from the Wii version, Tennis and Bowling, and is adding four new sports with Chambara, Football (Or Soccer), Badminton, and Volleyball. A Golf mode will also make it’s way into the game as a free update in the autumn....

According to the Twitter account of TechnikNews, Rey Mysterio will allegedly grace this year’s cover. The site also intimates that pre-orders will go live “soon”, but stopped short of providing a definitive date - although we already knew that it’ll be sometime in March. But that’s not all that’s leaked. According to TechnikNews, a three-day Early Access period will go live on 8th March, and the WWE 2K22 Deluxe Edition reportedly includes both the Undertaker Immortal Pack and the Season Pass (thanks, VGC)....

Two games will be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S: Praetorians - HD Remaster and Dead End Job. Xbox Live Gold members and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will have exclusive access to both of these games for a limited time, in addition to the usual benefits. Praetorians - HD Remaster will be available from 1st November up until 30th. Dead End Job on the other hand won’t be available until 16th November....

Five seconds are saved with the launch of a new, faster Xbox logo, which whooshes on and off your screen in around four seconds rather than nine. Xbox Insiders with access to Microsoft’s most up-to-date Xbox Series X/S system update are able to see the faster boot logo in action now, The Verge noticed. The change will roll out to all users over time. It’s worth noting this version of the logo is the one which appears for the consoles’ Energy Saver mode, which fully switches off your console between play sessions....

In a PlayStation Blog interview, the Final Fantasy 16 producer describes how he was honoured to be offered the opportunity to work on a single-player game in the series, but thought fans may criticise him. “I said ‘Thanks, but I have my hands full with Final Fantasy 14, so let me think about it.’ I was truly honoured that the company would choose my section, Creative Business Unit 3, to be responsible for making the next entry in the FF series....

This year I saved a sleepy village from a monster, I tried to unite a divided caste society, and I started a band. I defended the innocent in court, tried to stay alive in a death game, fought with street gangs in a cyberpunk society and found the impostor among us. The twist is this - I did all of this in visual novels. Even if you get past the misconception of all visual novels being the weirdly horny games you sometimes come across on Steam’s Popular Up and Coming lists, visual novels can be difficult to talk about....

Word of a sequel originally surfaced after keen-eyed internet sorts spotted a bullet point inserted into 505 Games’ latest fiscal year financial results, stating a “second version” of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was in development. Although the term “second version” left a certain ambiguity as to whether this was referring to a sequel or something else, 505 has now offered clarity in a development update on Reddit. “Regarding recent reports,” it wrote, “[505 Games and Artplay] are in very early planning stages for a Bloodstained sequel”....

The screenshot reel from a pre-release build of the game was found in the long-sought after 1996 Nintendo Company Report. The report, which has been carefully scanned and uploaded here, includes the standard yearly company round-up, plus some accompanying images of Nintendo’s star roster and various consoles including the Nintendo 64 and the destined for failure Virtual Boy. But the most interesting part of the report is the page that shows various screenshots of B-roll Nintendo 64 footage from 1995....

PUBG: New State appears to be something of a sequel to the original PUBG, taking the battle royale into the future (2051) and introducing a new battleground called “TROI”. It will apparently expand PUBG’s lore, allowing players to discover “how the universe has evolved”. I guess you can tell NASA to pack up the Perseverance rover, then. It sounds like the fundamentals of the original PUBG battle royale will remain the same, while adding several new features, such as a new in-game weapon customisation that allows players to make various weapons with customisation kits....
