As spotted by Gematsu (thanks, PC Gamer), back in 2018, studio boss Hidetaka Miyazaki said that “3.5” of the games the team was currently working on were unannounced, and 4Gamer reached out to ask Miyazaki on their progress. Since that time, we’ve had Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, PSVR game, Déraciné, and Elden Ring, of course. That leaves just one mysterious game yet to be announced, which may or may not be that heavily-rumoured Armored Core instalment....

Dune: Awakening was first teased back in 2019, when Funcom announced it had signed a deal with Legendary Studios to make “at least” three games set in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. One of those eventually turned out to be Dune: Spice Wars and the other, described as an “open-world multiplayer game” from Funcom Oslo, we can now call Dune: Awakening. Today’s announcement doesn’t bring any gameplay, but Funcom says it’ll combine the “grittiness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large-scale, persistent multiplayer games” in a “vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players”....

Did you meet Three Fingers? Far beneath the sewers of Leyndell Royal Capital, well off the beaten track, lies what’s perhaps Elden Ring’s most haunting tableau. With Mohg dispatched, a vast underground catacomb is revealed, and – as you wade through the countless corpses within, each frozen in eternal anguish – a terrible, genocidal truth is laid bare. But all this horror is just the preamble to an even greater discovery; further down still lies Three Fingers and the revelation nothing in Elden Ring is quite what it seems....

Excellent dungeon crawler Gods Will Fall is available to download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S from 1st to 30th September. “Numinous landscapes and skull-rattling combat combine in this leftfield classic,” Donlan wrote in Eurogamer’s Gods Will Fall review from 2021. Also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S is Double Kick Heroes, a zombie killing combination of shoot ’em-up and rhythm game. That one is available from 16th September to 15th October....

As ever, it’ll be held in Cologne’s cavernous Koelnmesse convention centre, and run from 24th to 28th August. Safety measures to manage the event’s usual crowds will include a limited ticket allocation, better entrance management, digital queues and extra-wide aisles in halls. I’ve attended half a dozen Gamescoms and the above measures are certainly welcome. Arguably, the event needed such things even before Covid was a thing. Gamescom has been held as a digital-only event for the past two years, but more than 370,000 gamers attended in 2019....

For that price, you’re first and foremost getting a powerful OLED panel (intriguingly, it’s the same one as put into LGs excellent OLED TVs) which should provide some marvellous contrast, complete with OLED-signature inky blacks and marvellous colour reproduction which should combine to offer a vivid and true to life viewing experience that makes games a joy to play, as well as also allowing for a sterling HDR performance, too....

The stakes are a little different when said assignment is, say, a £50 game from a best-selling, worldwide franchise. And unfortunately for someone at Square Enix, that assignment was Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. Frontline will offer a variety of modes, but its “flagship” offering available at launch will be Expedition, a 102-person large-scale mode where teams of three players complete objectives before calling for extraction. A secondary mode, Control, will offer a 9v9 points-based affair, though details on this are more sketchy. In Frontline’s reveal, during tonight’s Ghost Recon 20th Anniversary livestream, Ubisoft vaguely mentioned “a traditional arena shooter” offering as well as other additional modes which would launch within Frontline, season by season....

Personally, I love the way that the high-end RE Engine combines with hand-drawn imagery to deliver a game that looks modern but feels like an evolution of the series’ 2D roots. It’s a look that really grew on me as I played but it is certainly unusual at first glance. Unlike, say, the two Ori games, which uses multiple layers to build its scenes with soft, alpha edges, Ghosts ’n Goblins looks a little different....

Announced during the PC Gaming Show 2022, it will be available from August 16th on PC. As well as the date and a new gameplay trailer - see below - there’s news that Terri Brosius - the voice of Viktoria from Thief and Shodan from System Shock - will feature. In a post on its forum, GOG apologised to its customers, saying: “We’ve let you down.” Hitman - Game of The Year Edition launched on GOG.com last month and immediately sparked a row about DRM. GOG is a storefront whose brand is built upon selling games “DRM free” - that is, they can be played offline. Hitman’s GOG page, like that of so many games on the platform, highlighted that it was DRM free....

“One fine fall day,” explains Open Roads’ newly launched Steam page, “Tess Devine and her mother, Opal, discover a cache of old notes and letters carefully stashed away in the attic of their house. Hints of deep-rooted family secrets, decades-old burglaries, a lost treasure somewhere near the Canadian border… What they uncover suggests a much darker mystery, best left well enough alone. But that’s not going to happen.” The ensuing adventure follows 16-year-old Tess and mother Opal - voiced by Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) and Keri Russell (The Americans) respectively - as they explore a series of evocative, long-abandoned family properties in search of answers....

The specs were shared on Twitter last night, just days before the game’s launch this Friday. The game’s Steam listing has been updated to reflect the specs, alongside the minimum requirements for PC which publisher Warner Bros. previously confirmed earlier in the week. 2020 was a year of dashed plans and weird events, but it was also one that was full of cool, novel and genuinely exciting pieces of technology. We’ve covered some of it here on Eurogamer and on the Digital Foundry YouTube channel, but there were also a fair few items that fell through the cracks, especially as the Digital Foundry Deals project took off and next-gen consoles arrived. This week, we’re redressing some of these omissions with three of the coolest tech projects I tested in 2020 - from a miniaturised gaming laptop to a retro-future power bank and one of my biggest tech disappointments of the year....

San Andreas, which debuted on PlayStation 2 back in 2004, is the fifth main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series and follows the adventures of street gang member Carl “CJ” Johnson as he returns to the titular location following his mother’s death. As usual, it offers up a hefty chunk of narrative-heavy open-world sandbox action - a heady mix of driving, combat, and mini-games - albeit on a larger, more ambitious scale than the series had ever seen before at the time (Eurogamer called it a “incredible achievement”)....

The latest staggering total for the game was revealed by publisher Take-Two during an investor call last night (via SeekingAlpha). Perhaps more surprisingly, 2020 was the game’s best year of sales since the year of GTA5’s original launch back in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is now primarily sold as an entry point to GTA Online, with copies bundled alongside dollops of in-game cash. Spending on the game’s GTA Online portion grew 28 per cent year-on-year....

After a period of radio silence, the developer issued an update on its survival game, which launched in early access form in July last year. “We are approaching the one-year mark from the game preview / early access launch and we still have so much that we want to do for the game,” Obsidian said. “Some of these larger features take time, and with a small team it’s difficult to release content every month while balancing larger tasks that need to get done to finish the game....

A list of patch notes from Rockstar includes various other welcome tweaks and fixes. On Xbox, for example, audio is no longer paused when opening the Xbox guide or in an Xbox party. A matchmaking issue which caused a very long transition from Story Mode to GTA Online has also been fixed. For now, these changes are just for the PlayStation and Xbox families of consoles - not for PC....
