If you love old-school first person shooters, you won’t want to miss out on this horde of retro-style FPSes. It’s packed with £108/$143 worth of classic 90s-era inspired shooters, including Dusk, Amid Evil, UltraKill, Ion Fury and more. And if you’re wondering, what’s a boomer shooter? Well, this style of game is essentially any FPS that is reminiscent of the 90s shooter classics such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake and Half-Life....

Speaking to Eurogamer under condition of anonymity to protect their careers, more than a dozen employees have said they felt let down by how Team17 handled the announcement, and that the company’s refusal to listen to staff concerns has added additional pressure to a workforce already worn thin. Team members I spoke to - fiercely loyal to their colleagues and proud of the work they do - were aghast at the public drubbing the company’s name got last week, and say they have become increasingly upset by the decisions of management over the past few years, as workloads have risen while pay has remained poor....

The pitch here is pretty simple: the Core i5 11400F costs around £150/$175, yet its six core and twelve thread design still hits the current sweet spot for gaming and occasional content creation. It’s clocked just 400MHz slower than the Core i5 11600K (4.2GHz vs 4.6GHz for max all-core turbo), and each of its cores ought to be quite powerful, given its modern Cypress Cove design. In the best case scenario, it wouldn’t be outrageous to hope for performance in line with the Ryzen 5000 series - but at a considerably lower asking price than AMD’s £260/$300 entry-level Ryzen 5 5600X....

Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the dinosaur management sim sequel which adds in plenty of new features and creatures, including flying and airborne reptiles. Developer Frontier last year admitted the game had under-performed, something it blamed on the delay of the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion movie, now due in June. Here’s hoping Xbox Game Pass gives it fresh legs. Other games available now include PC narrative puzzler Her Story, from Telling Lies’ Sam Barlow, brand-new first-person photography sandbox Umurangi Generation Special Edition, pixellated early access game Little Witch in the Woods, plus Skate now for Xbox Cloud....

However, as with any groundbreaking technology, there’s plenty of controversy too: what role does the artist play if machine learning can generate high quality imagery so quickly and so easily? And what of the data used to train these AIs - is there an argument that machine learning-generated images are created by effectively passing off the work of human artists? There are major ethical questions to grapple with once these technologies reach a certain degree of effectiveness - and based on the rapid pace of improvement I’ve seen, the questions may need to be addressed sooner rather than later....

Puzzles is perhaps a generous term for what you do outside of combat - mostly, the rot will carry a misplaced object such as a platform or an energy crystal to the right place for you to use. At certain points, rot can also temporarily transform into a large creature than can clear rot away that’s blocking a path. Generally, however, you travel the forest until you get to a large, rot-infested clearing, an enemy will spawn for you to defeat, and afterwards you will clear the rot away by destroying a large rot flower....

The news was shared this evening at The Game Awards, with an accompanying trailer which you can see below, and the news that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will launch on 26th May on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Conroy sadly passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer. He voiced Batman for over 30 years, starting in the 90s with Fox Kids’ Batman: The Animated series, which would go on to run for 85 episodes between 1992 and 1995....

In a message to fans, producer Yasuyuki Oda said the ongoing struggle with coronavirus in Japan had set development back. “The development timeline we set out to reach in the beginning has been affected by the ever-still rising cases of COVID-19 within Japan,” Oda said. “We have made the ultimate decision in the end that the product’s quality must come first, and so with that decision comes an altered release window....

When Nintendo released its trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land during February’s Direct it may not have been ready for the sheer adoration that the introduction of Carby would spawn. However, now it is out there, Nintendo is leaning in hard to the corporeal car. Today brings a new video focusing solely on everyone’s favourite puffball automobile. This new video, below, shows Carby as he tootles his way around the Forgotten Land....

The past year has seen a flurry of mergers and acquisitions within the video game industry, with Microsoft following up its Bethesda purchase by launching its attempt to buy Activision Blizzard, while Sony has gobbled up Bungie and Take-Two has taken on Zynga. Don’t expect the Death Stranding developer to follow suit, however - even as Kojima looks to be building new games for both Microsoft and Sony. “I created this company in December 2015 after leaving Konami,” Kojima said, speaking on the latest episode of his Spotify podcast....

Since launch, players have complained of poor communication when playing online, causing inconsistent gameplay, errors, and game crashes. Now data transfer has been improved between players so that, according to the patch notes, data will on average be transferred “about .05 seconds more quickly than before”. Layers of Fears, as the remake is officially (and ridiculously) known, is being co-developed with Anshar Studios, and will see the original Layers of Fear, its Inheritance DLC, and Layers of Fear 2 rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, complete with new visuals, gameplay, and expanded plot lines said to “cast a new light on the overarching narrative” as players face “spine-chilling madness that extends over generations.” The first Layers of Fear game, if you’re unfamiliar, charted the story of a painter on the verge of completing his masterpiece while Layers of Fear 2 told the tale of an actor making a movie onboard a labyrinthine ocean liner, with both games serving up some striking psychedelic imagery as each protagonist began to lose their grip on reality....

The original Little Big Adventure - an evocative blend of platforming, puzzling, and exploration that followed young hero Twinsen as he attempted to escape evil dictator Dr. FunFrock - released back in 1994 and was followed by a sequel three years later. Needless to say, at now over a quarter of a century old, both were decidedly lacking in modern day polish. Developer 2.21, which now owns the rights to the series (and counts Little Big Adventure co-creator Didier Chanfray as a founder), announced it would be upgrading Little Big Adventure 1 & 2 back in March, although there was no estimated time of arrival for its enhancements....

The long-awaited PlayStation-exclusive arrival of Spider-Man as a playable character is now listed for “fall/winter”, while players on all platforms will get to confront Wakanda villain Klaw in Avengers’ first ever raid. A new enemy type and an expanded power level cap are also on the way, as well as some returning events plus tweaks to resources and gear upgrade systems. Tie-ins to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue with the release of more MCU-inspired hero outfits....

Mass Effect Legendary Edition contains the entire Mass Effect trilogy fully remastered with visual enhancements, technical improvements, and gameplay adjustments. “The upgrades are vast and far-reaching in the remaster. Shadow quality is boosted, geometry tweaked, and we have improved anti-aliasing to support the 4K picture on Series X, S and PS5,” wrote Thomas Morgan in Digital Foundry’s analysis of the collection. Leading up to Prime Day, a bunch of indie titles will be available to download from 21st June, including Death Squared, Fatal Fury Special, Rain World and Samurai Shodown 2....

The Cambridge Analytica scandal goes all the way back to 2018, when former Cambridge Analytica employee Christopher Wylie disclosed to The Guardian and The New York Times that the UK-based company had scraped extensive data from Facebook without the explicit consent of users. The scandal led to investigations on both sides of the Atlantic and the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office issuing a £500,000 fine to Facebook (this was before the GDPR had come into force, which allows for significantly higher financial penalties) and the US’ Federal Trade Commission issuing a $5bn fine....

Metroid Dread will still release on 8th October, Nintendo confirmed, but the game’s amiibo 2-pack featuring Samus and an EMMI robot will now turn up later, on 5th November. In a post on its Twitter account, Nintendo of Europe apologised for the holdup, which it blamed on “unforeseen shipping delays”. It’s unfortunate, as the amiibo figurines are clearly designed to give players a helping hand when the game first launches....

Details on the new title, codenamed Project Iron, are limited, but it’s described as a brand-new IP intended for a multi-platform global release. Project Iron’s initial development investment is set at €27m (approximately £23m), and the IP will be co-owned by MercurySteam and Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, which is co-publishing the game. “With MercurySteam’s creative vision and talent and 505 Games extensive experience, gamers can expect a high-quality, captivating and engaging video game”, the two companies write in an official statement accompanying today’s announcement....
