Unlike other generations - Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 5, Gen 6 and Gen 8 - the Alolan variants originating from the Alola Pokédex were released long before the first Gen 7 Pokémon arrived in Pokémon Go. The Gen 7 Pokémon made their first appearance in the Pokémon universe in Pokémon Sun and Moon for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Below you’ll find all of the Gen 7 Pokémon released so far in Pokémon Go and a complete Gen 7 Pokémon list, so you know which creatures are on their way. On this page: Alolan variants are Pokémon from Gen 1 whose appearance and typing differs in the Alola region. Vulpix, for example, is an ice-type Pokémon rather than a fire-type and Ninetales, its evolution, is an ice and fairy-type Pokémon. For some reason, a number of Gen 8 Pokémon, including Wooloo, were released before any Gen 7 Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Alolan forms were the first regional variants to appear in the Pokémon series and all of them are new versions of classic Gen 1 Pokémon. The Ultra Beasts - a group of extradimensional Pokémon hailing from Ultra Space - debuted as part of Gen 7. There are 11 Ultra Beasts in total and each one is incredibly powerful. Mimikyu is wearing a Pikachu disguise with the hopes of finally finding a friend. Anyone who glimpses beneath its rag, however, is said to die a painful death, which suggests Mimikyu’s true form is a kind of eldritch abomination. Gen 7 is the first generation to introduce a legendary Pokémon evolution tree; with Cosmog evolving into Cosmoem and then, depending on which main series game you were playing, either Solgaleo or Lunala. When its shield is down, Minior can be one of seven different colours. According to Pokédex entries from the main series, Sandygast has the power to mind control anyone who dares put their hand in its mouth. It then forces them to make its body bigger, essentially trapping them in an inescapable sand castle building nightmare.
The Season of Mythical Wishes continues with the Winter Holiday event, which has brought Mega Glalie to Pokémon Go. Don’t forget to partake in the new Go Battle League season.
Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres.
One of these Pokémon is Crabrawler, who, in the main series, will only evolve into Crabominable on Mount Lanakila. It will be interesting to see whether this location based evolution translates into a special requirement in Pokémon Go or if you’ll simply have to collect enough Crabrawler candy.
Another special Gen 7 evolution is Salandit which only evolves into Salazzle if it is female.
Most notably, however, Rockruff can evolve into one of three different versions of Lycanroc - Midday, Dusk and Midnight - depending on whether you’ve met a certain requirement in the main series. Currently, the Midday and Midnight forms are available in Pokémon Go and which one you receive depends on what time of day you evolve Rockruff during.
Lycanroc is not the only Gen 7 Pokémon with multiple forms though. Oricorio is a flying-type Pokémon whose appearance and typing changed depending on which Alola island you caught it on. We’ll have to wait and see how this Pokémon, and its various forms, are disturbed in Pokémon Go, but we definitely want to catch them all!
It’s also important to remember that, while the Alolan variants are part of the Alola Pokédex in the main game series, in Pokémon Go these are classified as variant forms and, therefore, share a Pokédex entry with their original counterpart.

Good luck catching the Gen 7 Pokémon!
